when does the weight gain really pick up?
I'm trying not to get too concerned with weight as long as my Dr doesn't think there is a problem... but... when does the real weight gain start?
I am 15w today and am up 3 lbs. I wasn't super skinny but wasn't overweight before pregnancy (maybe 10lbs up from my ideal weight), and have had minimal m/s. I walk regularly but I've also been really tired. I'm starting to get a belly and my boobs are bigger but not HUGE.
Do you gain most of your weight in second tri or third tri? will I wake up one day and BAM I'll be up 10 lbs?

at 12 weeks I was minus 3 lbs. Then the weight gain started gradually....I was gaining 2lbs a month until about the third tri, then it turned into 1 lb a week.
So far at 35w5d I'm up a total of 20 lbs from my original weight at 6 weeks.

There is no specified time. Everyone is different. I gained most of my weight in the first and second trimesters. Now it has slowed down. Some gain very early, others don't gain until much later!

Re: when does the weight gain really pick up?
It's different for everyone. I gained at least 10 pounds in my first trimester . I was pretty thin too to begin with. Not extremely skinny, but not overweight. I actually stopped looking at the scale after my 12 week appointment because I didn't want to obsess over it anymore.
I told my Dr. to let me know if there was a problem. I'll worry about my weight after the baby is born. I don't think I look like I've gained that much but I have to imagine I'm up at LEAST 15 pounds already at 24 weeks.
I'd say that you are probably fine and your doctor will let you know if there is a concern. Just remember that everyone is different.

Re: when does the weight gain really pick up?
I know that everyone is different, but I have slowly gained over the course of the pregnancy. I am up 19 lbs in just shy of 30 weeks - most of which was gained in the second trimester but slowly, I dont remember one week where it seemed like a gained more than another.

3rd tri for me. But I was overweight to begin with so I did what i could to not gain weight. I think it differs though.

Re: when does the weight gain really pick up?
I somehow was always up exactly 10 lbs less than whatever week I was at. So at 16 weeks, I was up 6 lbs. At 39 weeks, I was up 29 lbs.
So I guess I just very slowly gained. I also had horrible morning sickness from 9 1/2 weeks until the day I turned 14 weeks. So that may have "helped" stop me from gaining any weight in the first 10 weeks.
Of course, now I'm 8 weeks PP and still have 8 lbs to lose. I was down to about 5 to lose but then I started to gain again. I can't wait to go back to the gym in April!!!
Oh, I also worked out my entire pregnancy until i was 38 weeks. Obviously not with the same intensity at the end as at the beginning, but I think that may have helped too. I was pretty overweight to begin with, though, also.

Re: when does the weight gain really pick up?
I think it's diferetn for everyone and from what I can tell so far for every pregnancy.
With DS I gained most of the weight towards the end. With this pregnancy I've been putting on weight...hopefully not alot but I know I have.

Re: when does the weight gain really pick up?
i'm only 7 weeks and i've already gained around two lbs. Although, i gained at least 3 pounds with TTC..the stess of the two week hate had me eating like crazy. Plus i ate too much valentine candy. i'm only 5 feet and weigh 109 already!!!! I don't look heavy because its all in my belly, but its making me nervous. With my first DS i gained 30 lbs in total. I don't want to gain more than that this time around...I'm hoping that when the weather gets warmer i can offset the weight gain with lots of walking.
