traveling alone with 2 kids - some questions

In 2 weeks, I am bringing both kids down to Disney to meet DH who's on a conference. I will have DD#1 who's almost 4 1/2 and usually listens and stays by me, but I'll also have DD #2 who's 1 and will be in a stroller, plus I have to bring a carseat and a diaper/travel bag.

I'm thinking (well first that I'm nuts) but also thinking that I can wheel DD#2 in the stroller and put our carry-on bag in there, hold DD #1's hand. But now I have the issue of the car seat.

Does anyone make a car seat cover that has like backpack straps that i can just wear?

I'm really stressing on how I am going to do this!!

I got one from BRU that has straps like a backpack. Good luck with everything, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I was going to purchase this for my 2yo. and just rent a carseat at the destination. Maybe it'll work for you?

I think the less baggage to deal with, the better when traveling with kids.

They also have a car seat stroller which may meet your needs but its about $90.00. You could put DD # 2 in Car seat and check stroller. Link-Car seat Stroller

Re: traveling alone with 2 kids - some questions

I did this not too long ago.

I put the car seat on like a back pack-I stretched out the belts and put one over each shoulder.

I borrowed a sit and stand and that helped, but otherwise I would have had DD hold on to the stroller.

I also did curbside check in for as much as I could.

Once thing I just found out about that I would have done if I had known about it is valet parking. I would check into that at your airport.

Good luck-I felt crazy too, but you can do it!

Thanks! I think I'm going to buy the car seat bag at BRU so thanks for the recommendation. DH will take all of our luggage when he goes down, so I'll just need a carry on, stroller, car seat and kids. I don't need to park - I think I'm going to get a ride to the airport - at least I hope so! If not, I'm taking a cab so I don't have to park!!

Please curb side check everything and anything possible. It will be crazy hectic trying to push a stroller, carry a car seat, diaper bag AND oversee 2 kids. I'd give up on the carry on altogether and check it or have DH take it with him when he goes to the conference.

If I were you, I'd take the 2 kids, put the younger one in a stroller, take a diaper bag and call it a day. Everything else gets checked.

I need a car seat for the baby though. I'm sure DD #1 will have to go to the bathroom on the plane - and if she does, i'll have to keep DD#2 in the carseat while I go with her. PLus getting from to the hotel. And I need a carry on for diapers, bottles, snacks, etc.. If you see a crazy person on the news at Newark in 2 weeks, that would me!! Chat Icon

Re: traveling alone with 2 kids - some questions

My recommendations...

Put DD1 in the stroller - hand carry-on bag from stroller (or let her walk and push the stroller and put the carry-on in the stroller)
Get the GOGO travel thing that attaches to the car seat (I have one - FM me when you are going - maybe I can give you mine?) and wheel the baby through the airport in that. In this case, on of them will be pushed and the other will be pulled.

Another suggestion, check the stroller at the curb so you only have the car seat to worry about...

As far as a trip to the bathroom, if DD1 needs to use the potty, use the opportunity to change DD2s diaper. The fewer trips, the better.

Last week I had both boys in the bathroom on the plane. It is a little tricky but it is do-able. I held DS2 while DS1 did his thing then changed DS2s diaper on the changing table after he was done.

If you are getting a ride to the airport, is there any way to get a pass for the person to walk you to the gate and have DH meet you at the gate on the other side? When I traveled alone with the kids, that was what I did...
