which would you rather and why?

I'm rare - I hate carpeting.
I hate everything about it.
The allergen issues, carpet mites you can't see...it just never feels clean enough for me.

I like wood, laminate or tile.
I have zero carpeting in my house - I had every bit of it ripped up.

I just feel it's so much more cleaner this way and better for our allergies.

Do you mean when buying a house what do I look for. I would rip up anyones old carpeting but I dont mind carpeting myself. we are trying to figure out the same for our new bedroom...I like wood or tile with a big area rug-best of both!

Our house is a mix of hardwood, tiling and carpeting. I prefer the wood and tile because I feel like it's cleaner- but it requires more time to clean.. I have to vacuum and then mop while the carpeting I only have to vacuum. The carpeting also feels nicer on your feet I guess I really like have the carpeting in areas I want to be more comfy/cozy. Do you have to choose just one?

I agree that it depends on the room. I have hardwood in my formal living and dining room (with area rugs) and my son's bedroom (to avoid allergy/dust issues when he was an infant), and carpeting in the other bedrooms and the family room and basement, and tile in kitchen, entry foyer, and baths.

I definitely like the cozier feel of carpeting in bedrooms.

I think it also depends on the type of laminate flooring. I've seen some really nice, modern looking laminate flooring that looks like wood or like ceramic tile, but is much more durable. That type of laminate flooring can look really good in common living areas and be very practical and low maintenance, too.
