Frustrated

Hi Ladies,
I need some opinions please. I just started seeing a RE last week. AF arrived today and I'm supposed to go in for my CD 3 bloodwork, however when I called to make an appointment for Saturday, they don't do it then, so they asked me to come in tomorrow, however there ONLY appointment left is at 11 am.

I don't know what I'm going to do because I work in the city and there would be no point in going to work afterwards by the time I get there. I am so tempted just to wait until next month, because I really can't take off. Especially since we are off already on Monday for the holiday and it would look very strange if I called out sick to have a 4-day weekend.

Ugh, I hate feeling like this, since I know it's just the beginning of a lot of blood work and appointments.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Can you take your bloods at a local lab like Quest or Labcorp?

I don't think so, they do all of the bloodwork, sonos, etc there.

Yeah..if you need a sono..you need to go in. One more possibility, because many offices do not have weekend hours, they will do CD 3 bloodwork testing anywhere from CD2-5 to accommodate their patients. You could ask if you can come in on Monday instead.

I've done cycle day 3 BW at quest a few times. Maybe you can do that early in the morning.

Re: Frustrated

I would pick a place with early monitoring hours, where no appointment is required. I totally undersatnd your frustration. It's very hard when you have to work. Some places are open for monitoring at 7am and work on a first come first serve basis. Cornell is definitely one of them. And they are open every single day. Takes a lot of the stress off.

Re: Frustrated

I don't think I need a sono yet, but I asked them if I can do Monday which is CD5 and they said that's too late, that it HAS to be tomorrow. My RE does have early morning hours, they open at 6:30 am, but everything is booked and the next available is 11. That's why it's so frustating and I'm almost tempted to either wait until the next month or go see someone else. Ugh.

Re: Frustrated

Like you said, it is just the beginning of all the crazy appts. So one thing I looked for when I started researching RE's was the monitoring hours. It can be hard to switch RE's, so I am not sure how you feel of switching to another office with more flexible hours. Good luck!!! Chat Icon

Although I don't recommend them...Columbia was another place that was easy in terms of having early morning hours to get bloodwork. You could go in before 8:30 am and get any blood test you wanted. The only thing I miss about the place.

If all you need is the BW, then you just need a script to go to a Quest or whatever lab your insurance uses. It shouldn't be a big deal.

Re: Frustrated

Im pretty sure they always do a sono and bloodwork on CD3?? So even if you got your bloodwork done at a Quest lab; you still need your sono.

If the timing just isnt working out this month and is stressing you out; I would skip this month and just try naturally. It cant hurt.

Re: Frustrated

If you're going for CD3 monitoring, you will need a sono done, as well as bloodwork

It's totally up to you if you want to skip an entire month of treatment because of this - but me personally, i wouldn't. I would tell your work you have to take a personal day and then start the treatment. You don't want to regret missing a whole month because of one day.

Unfortunately, you will need to have days where you go in late, have to take a day etc.. its just the nature of having to be monitored and take meds on a very timed/scheduled basis.
Perhaps you can try to find an RE that is near you with weekend hours?

What's to say this won't happen next month as well? If you call on CD1 to get a CD3 appt and they're booked, you may end up with an 11:00 appt again next month.. then what would you do?
Not trying to be harsh, but just realistic.

When i started going to my RE, i told my boss what was going on and that there would be days i'd be in late or may have to miss work (i too work in the city, so an 11 appt would be useless for going into work)
And there were days where i needed to do an iui and the only appt they had was at 11.. so i had to take a day.
Most of the time it worked out because my RE had early monitoring hours and were very accommodating with scheduling.

Good luck either way! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Frustrated

I totally agree that I don't want to miss a whole month just because of a day. I have a call into the nurses to see if something else can be worked out. Normally, I would have no problem taking a day off, but due to the already 3-day weekend in place because of the holiday, it would just look really bad if I called out sick tomorrow. I thought about talking to my boss about it and I'm sure I will when more appointments come up, however he is VERY nosey and will ask a million questions. Also, not sure if its due to having AF but I am very emotional today and would probably start to cry if he asked what I was doing.

Just an update: The nurse called back and was super nice and said I can def still come on monday for the bloodwork and sono. It will be CD 5, but she said its fine. I guess it's just the secretary's that are nasty and not helpful. Thanks for everyone's help.

I have found the same thing. I think that is why there is such a revolving door of receptionists in my RE's office. Thankfully it worked out. Chat Icon

Re: Frustrated

Most REs are usually very flexible when it comes to CD3 and the beginning of the monitoring.
Usually offices open up early...like 6 am or 7am and the early morning hours are dedicated for monitoring on a first come first serve basis. Maybe you should look for an RE with more flexible hours.Chat Icon

My RE opens at 6:30 as well and when they give me a latter appointment I go in at 6:30 and they see me right away...they dont even question what time my appointment was...you can try doing that.

I just wanted to say that if your RE is closed on Sunday's it can cause a lot of frustration in the nearby future. My previous doctor was also closed on Sunday and because of that I missed out on 2 of the B2B IUIs that I was supposed to do only because I was ovulating during the weekend..... as you can imagine this adds a lot of stress to the process. Just wanted to throw that in there.

Good Luck!
