drug test question....
so in light of the idiot girl I know who smokes and is pregnant.....
someone told me they drug test when you arrive at the hospital and go into labor.
is this true?
because i'm thinking, she might get caught this way.
serves her right.

sad as it is but I know 2 people.
one i somewhat excuse in a way. shes not smoking to get stoned and she doesn't smoke all the time like the other one.
this one friend just smokes when she can't keep food down or gets really sick. and it's just a little bit she smokes. she's also the girl who told me about the drug test. so not that i think it's a good thing, i do however view it to be somewhat on a different level than that other idiot.
me personally... i won't smoke or drink during pregnancy. i sucked up being sick and all that and dealt with it.

I doubt it. We took a lamaze class with a labor & delivery nurse 2 weeks ago and she explained that a mother did a line of coke during her labor. She hid it from the nurses when they exited the room. They knew something was wrong with the baby when it was delivered due to its poor heart rate, so they sent blood from the baby to the lab for testing and the results came back with levels of cocaine present.

You mean she smokes cigarettes or weed?
If she smokes cigarettes there's nothing that can/will be done if she goes to the hospital and they "drug test" her because nicotine is not an illegal substance.
They could drug test the baby after it's born to ensure it's healthy, but nicotine is not something they would "catch" her with and report her to anywhere.

Hopefully they do this! How could she do that to her poor unborn child!
I often find myself asking how and why she does a lot of what she does.
there are no answers.
apparently the idiot asked a mutual friend of ours about the drug test and she seemed "spooked but yet not".
I don't think even the fear of knowing there could potentially be a drug test at the end is enough to get her to stop.

im sorry, i understand this is a hot button issue on this site at the moment - but to say that someones kid should be taken away because the mother spokes pot - that is absolutely absurd.
do you know how full the orphanages and foster homes would be?? there would LITERALLY be thousands of more kids under state supervision which i am sure in many cases would be worse for the future of the child than leaving the child with the parents.
again, i dont condone smoking or drugs or anything while pregnant. but i also dont condone taking away someones kid from an otherwise stable environment. im not saying i dont think there shouldn't be a penalty or repercussion for poor decision making, i just think taking away someone's kid is really rash.

they wouldn't take the kid away for smoking pot. I'm pretty sure of it. A friends SIL who smoked (daily) and they tested and she got caught. but they didn't take the kid away... but they put restrictions on her. She couldn't leave alone with the kid and had to go to treatment centers and had to do all sorts of things. when she continued to fail tests then they took the kid away from her... but she always got the kid back.
and although this girl may not have done the right things, i don't want her kid taken away. i do know her personally and wouldn't want to see that.
I was googling the effects of smoking while pregnant and I was surprised by the sheer number of people who smoke and post very openly about it. some even say it's good for the baby!!

just curious tho, didnt it ever show up in her blood when she had blood work taken, i know they are not testing for drugs when they do this, but im thinking that if i were your friend i would be nervous that it would show up somewhere!

I would assume they do test during prenatal visits if they suspect.
i doubt this girl would fall under the suspicion category, based on her past. she was in the army, shes now a nurse. so i don't see them thinking she would do that.
id be nervous too if i were her.

I know I shouldn't be lurking on the PG board anyway, but I really have to stop reading your posts about this Kerri. It makes me so angry, I want her throttled and her child given to someone who deserves to have a baby.
My friend suffered a 32 week loss exactly a month ago today and did everything 100% right her entire pregnancy. She didn't deserve it. The heartbreak is unbelievable. Every time I read your posts about this selfish wench who thinks it's ok to not only partake in illegal practices but to punish her unborn child with brain damage it makes me so angry I want to scratch her eyes out and make her understand how selfish she is.
No one deserves the heartbreak of a loss of a child. And no child deserves a mother like this lady you say is your friend.
Just my opinion of course. I just finally wanted to say something because it's angering me so much. I'll just try not to read about her anymore.
