I should never have looked

at the scale this morning. I haven't looked (even at Dr. appointments) since 12 weeks. I figured if there was a problem, the doctor would tell me and there was no sense in getting myself all worked up over weight gain.

Well, this morning curiosity got the best of me and I am up about 20 lbs already at only 20.5 weeks Chat Icon . I just don't get how this happened. I don't feel like I've gained that much and people tell me I look fine (but then again, they could just be being nice). I'm trying to not let it upset me but I'm worried because I'm only half way through my pregnancy. Has anyone had a lot of weight gain that tapered off more to the end?

Thanks for listening.

i am in the sammmmeee exact boat, i refuse to weight myself at home, and at the doctors i dont look at the scale! like you said if there was a problem i figured dr. would just tell me im gaining to much!

welll...at our level 2 last week we were waiting for the dr to come in, and the computer was up and i happened to glance and the weight i was this visit and i nearly had a heart attack, so then i scrolled down and looked at my very first visit and i def gained 20lbs already!

im hopeing the weight gain starts slowing down!! im def trying to eat healther and not give into all my cravings! and i started doing a pregnancy workout video lol ( i was somewhat active before getting prego so i didnt think this would be a problem) its extremely low impact so i dont know how much it will do...maybe spare me a few lbs at my next apt!

oh well! what can you do! gotta enjoy your pregnancy so no use in getting all upset about the weight gain!

i have a picture of myself from my honeymoon that i will keep as motivation to get back into that body!!!

Try not to stress over it too much. As long as your eating habits have remained healthy you really should have nothing to worry about.

Re: I should never have looked

when I stopped weighing I felt much better. I've def said it before here but I gained most of my weight by then. . and then lost, and then gained again and just feel like your body will do what it needs to do. . as long as you are doing your best to eat healthy - just try to relax. . also some people hold a LOT more fluid than others so weight is also very different for different folks.

Re: I should never have looked

I did!!! Try not to stress. I was up about the same amount of weight at 20 weeks. There was even a month I gained 10 lbs (While the next month I only gained 2)!! Keep in mind that I don't stuff my face either- I exercise regularly and eat right!!!!!!!!!! Women just gain weight at different points in their pregnancies. For me it was in the first and second trimesters. Now at 30 weeks, it definitely has slowed way down. The doctor definitely would have said something if it was a problem. And keep in mind some doctors don't even go by weight gain at all. My doctor goes by the way I look and the measurement of the baby. She has never questioned my weight gain to be a problem and when I have asked she's always said that she didn't go by numbers and said I looked great so that's what matters.

Your body just seems to know what to do to have a healthy pregnancy. Try not to stress out (trust me I know how hard it is especially gaining weight that quick).

The weight gain may slow down, maybe it won't but you know what, that weight gain is for one of the best possible reasons. Be proud of it!! Also keep in mind that after pregnancy I heard it comes off and pretty easily. No one I knew kept on the baby weight. It all comes off after!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I should never have looked

I gained 48 lbs my whole pregnancy.....at 20 weeks I was up 20 lbs. Nobody had more weight gain issues than I did (trust me-I would sob uncontrollably every time I got weighed).

I know its been said again and again, but DON'T WORRY about your weight gain.....if you're eating healthy and remaining moderately active, then your body is just doing what it needs to do. If your OB is concerned, then you be concerned.

In hindsight-I had my DS 2 weeks ago as of tomorrow....and I'm down 20 pounds already.

When you meet your LO you will not care at all how much you gained-actually you'll be saying you would have gained double knowing that there's such an amazing prize waiting at the finish line for you Chat Icon

Re: I should never have looked

See I am the opposite. I gain the most in my 2nd half. With DS I gained 1lb in my first trimester!!! Felt great about that....well guess what I gained 50lbs my whole pregnancy! I had lost 30lbs by 2 weeks PP. And my 10 or 11 months I had lost it all - I did nothing to help lose it, didnt work out, didnt eat right, NOTHING. So it did take a while but it all came off.

This pregnancy I was up 10lbs at 20 weeks and then at 24 weeks I was up 18! I cant even remember what the 28 week # was! But I am sure it wasnt pretty!

My point is dont worry, everybodys body reacts differently. My SIL is 16 weeks I think and she has gained 14lbs (she was a rail before this) and seriously even with those 14lbs you can't even tell, she just looks like she is bloated, not pregnant!

So just take it in stride realize that gaining weight is part of what we all signed up for when we decided to get pregnant. Eat healthy, stay active and most of all just enjoy your pregnancy!!!

Re: I should never have looked

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. Don't get me wrong - I am ecstatic to be pregnant and after all I did to get here, the weight gain is so small in comparison to everything else. I'm mostly concerned with the health aspects of it for me and more importantly the baby. But I guess like you all said, my body is doing what it needs to and if the Dr. was concerned he would let me know.

Thanks Chat Icon
