Re: Had level 2 today. (LONG)

Thank You everyone for the prayers, it really means a lot!!

I also had the TORCH blood work yesterday which will show if i somehow came in contact with an infection that could have caused the bright bowel. I should have those results by Thursday.

If you read my post from last night I mentioned how I wanted to find out what we were having and DH did not. Well, we found out (can't say because family doesn't know yet) but also got some not so great news.

It turns out that my scan showed 2 markers, one being I have a 2 vessel cord instead of 3 and the other being the baby has what they call a bright bowel. This all could mean my baby could have a chromosomal abnormality.

My doctor said things could turn out fine, but I have to be monitored closely from now on. I have to have a Fetal Echocardiogram next week and another sono in 4 weeks. He does not think an amnio is necessary because my blood results for Downs was 1 in 4000 and my results after the AFP were 1 in 250,000. He also said the chance of miscarriage after an amnio is 1 in 500 so because the blood results are good he and I do not want to chance it.

I'm so upset by this news and just pray that everything turns out ok in the end. The bright bowel issue could resolve itself in the 3rd trimester so we shall see.

DH and I were completely blindsided by this news. The sono tech never picked up on either issue. She kept saying everything looked perfect. After she does her scans and measuring she calls the sono doctor into the room and she also scans. That's when we found out that there are 2 problems. We were shocked.

All I kept thinking was how trivial it was to argue with DH over finding out the sex. How non important that all seems now. And I remember when DH and I were discussing trying for a third we both always thought will we be pushing our luck? We have 2 beautiful healthy girls, will we be as lucky a third time?

Anyway, if you got this far please say a prayer that everything will turn out ok. DH is so great and agreed to find out the sex because he thought I needed some good news. So when I was done talking with my doctor he went and asked the sono tech to write it down and we opened it when we were alone in the car.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this!!! But, I know exactly how you feel right now. We just had our third a Chat Icon , we already have 2 boys. At my 20 week sono with her we found out that she had 2 cysts on her brain. OMG... the fear that came over me was overwhelming. We've always only had fun 20w sonos, we were completely shocked to say the least. We had to go see a specialist, etc. I was so scared. I came on here and got wonderful support from a lot of women, it really helped. For the next 2 months all I did was worry. My numbers from the NT scan were great so my doctor wasn't worried at all and also thought an amnio was really necessary, but if it made me feel better... We opted not to and waited it out. We had another scan at 28weeks and the cysts were gone. Talk about relief! And now we have a beautiful 10 week old perfectly healthy baby girl! Chat Icon

I'm sure everything will be fine! Hang in there! Chat Icon

I know what it's like to get bad news at a sono!! My situation was a little different where I actually lost my baby- but I can absolutely identify with feeling like what you were arguing about before was sooo trivial.

On our way to the appointment where we found out the news, my DH and I were having a disagreement about whether or not our kid should be in the marching band. It was silly, really... but after our appointment I couldn't believe that just hours before, our biggest concern was our son or daughter being in the marching band!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Anyway, this could very well all turn out to be FINE!!!!!!!!!!! You blood work results seem great! I hope this all just resolves itself and you get some relieving news in a few weeks!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not sure if it would ease your mind, but for what it's worth, my 20 US also showed an echogenic bowel. It also showed short femur and humerous bones... So 3 markers for DS...

I had the amnio and everything is fine with regard to chromosomes.

I am now 33 weeks and just went for an US today and the bright bowel is much less than it was and now they are not really concerned about it.

Thing is i am told that by themselves, each of these findings are very common and a variation of normal, but of course they have to freak us and test for everything. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know exactly how you feel! When I went for my level 2 for my DD, they found a soft marker - echogenic foci (calcium deposit) on her heart. I was a nervous wreck! But i went to the high risk doctor, he did a 2nd sono and all looked good. He was very reassuring, but I was still nervous, but he was right -- she was born perfectly healthy! Many Chat Icon Chat Icon that you have a similar outcome!
