Had level 2 today. (LONG)
If you read my post from last night I mentioned how I wanted to find out what we were having and DH did not. Well, we found out (can't say because family doesn't know yet) but also got some not so great news.
It turns out that my scan showed 2 markers, one being I have a 2 vessel cord instead of 3 and the other being the baby has what they call a bright bowel. This all could mean my baby could have a chromosomal abnormality.
My doctor said things could turn out fine, but I have to be monitored closely from now on. I have to have a Fetal Echocardiogram next week and another sono in 4 weeks. He does not think an amnio is necessary because my blood results for Downs was 1 in 4000 and my results after the AFP were 1 in 250,000. He also said the chance of miscarriage after an amnio is 1 in 500 so because the blood results are good he and I do not want to chance it.
I'm so upset by this news and just pray that everything turns out ok in the end. The bright bowel issue could resolve itself in the 3rd trimester so we shall see.
DH and I were completely blindsided by this news. The sono tech never picked up on either issue. She kept saying everything looked perfect. After she does her scans and measuring she calls the sono doctor into the room and she also scans. That's when we found out that there are 2 problems. We were shocked.
All I kept thinking was how trivial it was to argue with DH over finding out the sex. How non important that all seems now. And I remember when DH and I were discussing trying for a third we both always thought will we be pushing our luck? We have 2 beautiful healthy girls, will we be as lucky a third time?
Anyway, if you got this far please say a prayer that everything will turn out ok. DH is so great and agreed to find out the sex because he thought I needed some good news. So when I was done talking with my doctor he went and asked the sono tech to write it down and we opened it when we were alone in the car.

I'm so sorry that it seems there was some cause for concern. The important thing now is that you caught it and can be monitored from here on out. Hang in there!

Re: Had level 2 today. (LONG)
Not that it really makes a difference, but the sono tech may have known all along and just didn't want to be the bearer of bad news
Many that all results turn out positive at your fetal echo and sono follow up in a few weeks.
I've had 3 fetal echos because they thought the babies had VSD (hole in their heart) but it turns out the sono tech that did the first 2 echos didn't know what she was doing.
Sending all positive thoughts and prayers your way!

Re: Had level 2 today. (LONG)
First:
I also was told that I have a 2 vessel cord.
My OB made me feel at ease and said that while years ago, this would have frightened docs immensely, that in his experience, these days a 2 vessel cord is just that...a 2 vessel cord!
I was told at 16 weeks, I had the 2VC, and I was petrified after googling what it could mean.
At my Level II -- they measured the baby, and many times a 2VC means the baby isn't getting enough nutrition and can measure small, as well as congenital defects. During the Level II, they said the baby was measuring right on target, and looking great. So as of right now, it doesn't seem the 2VC is affecting the baby.
If your baby's measurements were good at the Level II, then I wouldn't freak out to much about any of this right now. They will continue to monitor you for the rest of the pregnancy, but I'm sure the 2VC means nothing.
I also have to have a fetal echocardiogram next week, and the doc already said that by what they saw in the Level II, so far it looks like the heart is looking good.
If they haven't said there are drastic differences in measurements from what it should be now, then I think you're gonna be okay!
