I don't think having a lavish bridal shower has anything to do with a baby shower, they are two seperate events that she is entitled to. It seems as if she did it last minute and so low key because she did not want a lavish baby shower, and this may have been their way of saying not to spend so much and they just want people there to celebrate the occasion. I would assume most people wouldn't attend because it is so last minute and have other plans and I am sure they realize that. if you don't have other plans I would go and buy her what you were intending on buying her.

She was cc'd on her sister's email and definitely knows about. She can definitely afford it as can her investment banker husband.
Sorry, this just rubbed me the wrong way..My husband is in finance and things aren't what they used to be...and unless you've seen her bank acct, you really don't know what she can afford...
As the PP said, a bridal shower and baby shower are two very different things, and honestly in my opinion, things for babies add up a lot quicker than things for newlyweds...do you really NEED a china set, not really, do you really need 800 diapers and onesies, YES

I can see how it being last minute would annoy you, but you don't know if she changed her mind at the last minute or if her sister is just late in getting things going. Either way, I wouldn't take it out on her or her baby. I mean, you had intended on buying the baby something after he/she was born anyway, so now it's just a little earlier than you had anticipated. I'd go and have a good time and bring whatever you were planning on getting in the first place. I wouldn't let this one ruffle your feathers for too long.

Are you planning on having a baby shower??
would she be invited to your baby shower and bring you a gift??
I don't see anything wrong with this. She's still entitled to have a baby shower. Maybe the method of inviting wasn't a way in which you would, and perhaps she said she wasn't having a shower but not everyone has to do things the same way and also sometimes things change.
I just don't see what the big deal is with this. There's also the fact that you said you were going to buy her a gift after the baby was born, so what if the gift is before the baby is born and you get to go to a gathering and have food now.
I would focus my energies elsewhere.
And PS I don't think what her husbands occupation is or how much he makes should dictate the right to have a baby shower or not. that's just judgmental and wrong IMO.

wouldnt bother me at all. I see it as alot of other ladies have...your friend didnt want a big shower, relatives felt bad and decided to put together something small at the last minute. I would definitely go if it is a good friend but if it bothers you that much, just say you already have plans.
