Does anyone use ring slings? Or tried and went to something else? All input welcome!!

I'm due in March and I'm trying to do some research. I like the idea of baby wearing, and like that I can have my baby close to me while I do things around the house. Especially since I won't be able to be a SAHM, I would like to get as much time with Chat Icon close to me whenever I can so he knows I'm here for him.

Being tall, and on the heavier side (I am 5'11" and wore a size 16 pre-pregnancy), so the ring slings look like they give me the most versatility in getting the fit I want.

But I'm looking for real world reactions, not just the hype on their websites. Unfortunately they are only sold in such limited places that it is hard to get them in that it is hard to find good feedback.

Is there a particular brand you liked more than others? Did you try it and hate it and end up going with something else?

Thanks in advance!! Can't wait to join you ladies!

I use a woven wrap (4.5m Vatanai) and am on the fluffier side, wraps have a bit more versatility than ring slings do. I can wear DD2 in a rebozo carry which is similar to a ring sling carry, the difference is it's a slip knot rather than the rings

thebabywearer.com is an awesome forum of mama's who are all about baby wearing, but you have to register.

I also have an Ergo that I love

here is the thing that you won't read on the box:

no matter how amazingly designed any of them are, or what their sparkling reviews say, the bottom line is your baby will decide whether he or she likes it or not...and they will have the final sayChat Icon

I had bought 2 of them before my first baby was here...was all excited. I even walked around the house with as stuffed animal in it, to get the idea of it.

Baby came and hated it. Used it like twice.

Just something to keep in mind. Chat Icon Chat Icon

good point

my friend who is really into babywearing told me about this place where you can "rent" a carrier

http://paxbaby.com/sling_exchange/

forgot to say in my other post, I also have a Moby wrap, which I liked but when baby gets about 15lbs the stretch is too much.

I also have a peanut shell pouch which didn't work for me, I'm short and large chested. I lent it to a friend who is taller and it worked better for her, but she felt it still squished her chest. So, I guess if you have larger boobs it won't be comfy. YMMV.

I used the moby for when he was little and it also gives a lot of versility. I am 5 foot 1 inch so some of the carriers didn't work for me. But, I loved it.

And now that he is older I use the Ergo.

That is definitely something I worry about...especially with the price of the slings. I will look into the site that tarabelle99 pointed out, so Chat Icon and I can try it out together, and I'll get what works (if any) from there!

Hmm, something else to check out (both the wrap and the site). Thanks!

OK, that website looks awesome!! Once Chat Icon gets here I am going to contact them for help and get a little package together to try various things! My height/weight often make things difficult for me...it is great to have someone who can help me!

We really like our ring sling. It worked well for the newborn stage. Our Mei Tei carrier which worked even better as they got older and heavier Chat Icon
