when you book a hotel
do you go by the ratings on Trip Advisor? I picked out 3 hotels in SF and even though 2 are more expensive than the 3rd, the 3rd is rated way higher. I wonder how accurate/objective the ratings are...

Re: when you book a hotel
I often go to tripadvisor just to check the rating but I don't book or not book because of that rating.

Re: when you book a hotel
i have ocd horrible ocd the most recent hotel we booked i went through 24 pages of reviews i felt a lot of the "negative" reviews were from people who were just stupid, but overall the hotel got very good reviews
i worry when a hotel has too many negatives, but i also look into what they say specifically

Re: when you book a hotel
I read the reviews many times. Some people have weird expectations and rate low based on something that would not bother or effect you. So i never go by the ratings alone.

Re: when you book a hotel
I always check trip advisor...if I see the same negative comments over and over then I will definitely avoid the place.

Re: when you book a hotel
I check tripadvisor but take everything with a grain of salt. If there are obvious defects I let it get to me but if I think someone is nitpicking, I don't. I
One review of an amazing hotel I looked at said "the sheets were scratchy"... Ummmm - we stayed there anyway - it was 5 star resort and one of the most incredible places in the world! The person who reviewed it only gave it 1 star!

Re: when you book a hotel
LOL, I've never checked tripadvisor. Usually if I'm going somewhere I try to get the suggestion of someone I know.

Re: when you book a hotel
I definitely use tripdvisor as an aid. It saved us big time once.
but like PP mentioned - I take some of the reviews with a grain of salt.

Re: when you book a hotel
Yes, I do check trip advisor. Chances are, any hotel that has a positive rating of more than 80 percent is going to meet or exceed your needs. I make a point to look at the bad reviews first and pay close attention to the validity of them. Of course this is always subjective but I've seen hotels get bad ratings for things like there were mosquitos outside (??!)
