Re: Would this upset you (re: similar sounding baby names)?
What if you spelled it and prounounced it like Kyan (Kai-an)??
Its similar to what you and your DH really like-but further away from your nephew's name..
If you REALLY love the name, ask your sister what she thinks.....

IMO, I think it is ok to name your baby whatever you and DH want...especially if you will not be seeing your nephew super often.
However, I would be kinda annoyed if my sister named her child a very similar name, but I'd get over it.
Do what you want!

Re: Would this upset you (re: similar sounding baby names)?
I would name the baby my first choice name no matter who used the same or similar name first. Things like this dont bother me at all. If I named my baby Mike and my sister, cousin, friend, etc. named their baby Mike too I wouldnt be mad at all. I think you have the right to name the baby what you want and its not your fault if others like similar names.

My personal opinion is that with all the names there are, I would find something else. The names you are selecting are way too close. Again, that's my opinion.

I personally wouldnt do it. It's just too close. DH's niece is Madison, and he liked the name Addison for our DD - that wasnt gonna happen. And he also liked the name Juliette. And one of my nieces is Julia. I nixed that one too. Just too similar honestly, and we are 1500 miles away from both.

I wouldn't care at all! I have cousins that have the SAME name. I think they're different enough. . . and I LOVE both names. Also, have you thought of spelling Kian the Irish way? It's authentic spelling is Cian. Using the C might make it a little more "different."
I say it's your baby.. .go with what you like :)

my new kiddo will have a very similar sounding name to my current kid. Everyone else has an issue with it, except for me.
