How long did it take you from finding THE house to moving in?
DH and I are about to start looking this year again for a house. On the south shore from mid nassau-west islip (if anyone knows of anything  ). We are in the very very beginning stages of the house hunting process. We still need to talk to a financial advisor, get approved, see exactly what our price range is, etc. But once we do find a house we're willing to put an offer on, I just wanted to know how long it took you from the time you put in an offer in to move in. After the contracts, attorneys, appraisal, closing and everything. TIA! I know it all depends on every situation but I just wanted to poll it anyway.

If I remember correctly, we put our first offer in in April. We went back and forth a bit, and we finally closed and moved in in August.

We started looking in Babylon/West Islip in July, found our house in August but waited. Put in the offer in September after the price dropped pretty drastically, had some hiccups along the way but closed on December 23rd and moved in about a week later (thanks to the blizzard on the 26th).

We put our offer in early-mid august
closed end of November
Moved 2 weeks later
I think on average its about 3 months!

We Found THE house in Feb, and closed on May 30th. We moved in the next day.

we started looking in August, made an offer in October and closed the end of December. We moved straight in - I had bags of clothes in my car to bring over to the house immediately following the closing.

I would plan on 60-90 days for the mortgage paperwork. It could be less but be prepared for delays and then you wont get as upset.
We went into contract in Oct and closed in late Dec. We moved in in Feb because we gutted the house.

Closed in July
Moved in in November

9-1/2 months
January 3rd - viewed the house
January 25th - contracts signed
April 10th - Closed
May 5th - owners moved out
May thru October - worked on the house
October 18th - moved in

We put an offer in during mid-November and closed the second week of February. We didn't move in until April because I had just had DS and we wanted to paint, refinish some floors etc, before we moved in and still had 2 months left on our apartment lease.

We saw the house in early February 2008 and made an offer. After some back and forth, our offer was accepted and we had an inspection a few weeks later. We signed the contract in March and closed at the end of June. We moved in at the end of July.

Found the house at the end of January, closed at the end of March and moved in the last weekend of April (but, had no kitchen until June).

the sellers of our house dragged out the entire process. we found the house beginning of march, signed the contract at the end of march, and did not close until the end of june (and this was only because we put something in the contract saying that we needed to close by june 30 or they would owe us 8k for the tax credit). i'm sure if we didn't put that clause in there it would have dragged out even longer.
ETA: we did not move in till beginning of july b/c the sellers wanted a few more days in the house.

We started last January, looked at 60-70 houses in person & found ours in July.

About 3 yrs of looking for a house...we had very unusal circumstances. DH refused to leave his neighborhood and there was limited homes there. After growing up a bit DH realized that it wasnt just about him (thank goodness) and we started searching surrounding neighborhoods.
We lost 3 different houses due to bidding, crazy sellers and one ubber sketchy agent. Finally last May we found our home. We moved in early Sept. Not only are we in DH's childhhood neighborhood but also, only a few blocks away from his parents....funny how life works!

looked for a house for less than a week.
offer accepted beg. of november
got the keys Dec. 11th of last year
took about a month from offer being accepted to me getting the keys to the house.

We placed a bid in mid-Dec, it was negotiated on for less than an hour, he accepted, we signed contracts w/in 2 weeks, we closed w/in 30 days and moved in the day of closing towards the end of January. Overall, about 5 weeks!
