head banging

DS has started sitting up in his crib and banging the back of his head on the crib if he doesnt want to nap/sleep. tell me its a stage? can't be good

I'm sure it will pass. When DS was at that age he would randomly bang his head repeatedly on the floor. Of course I thought he was a bit coocoo but ped assured me it would pass.

I just ignored the behavior, and sure enough when he realized he didn't get any attention for it he stopped.

I've seen DS do this too on the video monitor... but he has a DOC band (helmet) so I haven't been worried

Now that he's getting that off, I sure hope he doesn't do it anymore!

Although, I've read that many kids do that to "soothe" themselves.... which is ironic since you'd think it's hurting them. I dunno.

DS started doing this at around 10 months. Only when he's going to sleep. It soothes him, I guess. Although sometimes he's really whaling on himself so IDK how that can be soothing. He's starting to do it less frequently now (@ almost 14 months). Ped said no worries, if he hurts himself he'll stop.
