Bedtime on demand? 4 months old.

At about 6 weeks we started a bedtime routine and put DD down at 8/8:30 after a book and a bottle... in the next month or two, she pushed it back slowly to 7:00/7:30. She's been sleeping 9-10 hours a night.

There are nights that she is just DONE with the day at 6/6:30 and ready for bed. <sometimes this is after she has woken up from a nap at 5:00!>

We've tried to keep her up thinking we will be screwed with a 3am wake-up if we don't and that 6:00 is an EXTREMELY early bedtime.

Should we continue to do this? Or try putting her down that early?

Is it ok if babies have different bedtimes each night if that's what their bodies demand 6/7/8:00? Or is it important to start a strict schedule now?

Re: Bedtime on demand? 4 months old.

this is exactly what Mason did around that age. He used to go to bed later then around 4 - 5 months he was getting tired around 7:30 so we started his night routine around 7 for bath, bottle, book then put him in the crib.

Now still at 19 months old he likes to go to sleep early. I'm a FTWM so if he could stay up later I'd love it to get more time with him, but that's not the case. Now he's out around 7:15. I can't complain though b/c I'll workout or cleanup after he goes to sleep and get everything in order. Then DH and I will sit and eat then relax till we pass out. DS gets up at 6 - 6:30 AM

Because I"m a freak about sleep, I would do anything to keep DC up.

The time between his last nap and bedtime is such a struggle because it's the longest "awake time" he has and he gets tired. But if he's really fussy and tired, I'll give him a bath and that'll calm him down.

My DD is on a late schedule, sleeps at 9pm wakes at around 9am.

But once in a blue moon she is tired at 8, so I put her down... I dont want her to get extra cranky!!

She is 5 months tomorrow.
