99.5 temp in 5 1/2 week old
So yesterday I notice that DD had a bit phlegm. She usually wakes up with some and it goes away but yesterday it stayed the entire day. She then threw up (alot) of the BM that I fed her but after her bath and an additional nursing, she went to bed.
This morning at 4am, she woke for her nursing and I noticed that she felt warm. She also had a stuffy nose. When I first took it, it cam in at 100.2. I undressed her and put her in lighter clothes to let her skin breathe a bit before taking her temp again. It came in at 99.5, which the thermometer is telling me is normal. I took it three more times and it all showed temps in the low 99's. These were rectal temps.
DH is at work and expected to come home at 10am. I have a call into the ped's office. I know I have seen posts saying that temps in an infant mean possible spinal taps. I could be paranoid but am starting to worry.

Anything over 100.4 is cause for concern, under that is considered normal.

Yup, newborns aren't yet able to regulate their body temperature, so it fluctuates a lot. Anything under 100.4 is totally normal. As far as the phlegm/congestion, also totally normal. Newborns still have a lot of mucous in their systems from all the fluid they were loving in! You will prob notice congestion on and off for a couple months. No need for worry!
