anyone have co-op insurance? update

i am going to call the place we get our car insurance to get a quote.... i guess co ops have insurance...but its wise to get inside insurance for damage/theft for furniture/belongings.

if things go well... it would be a 2b/2b in south freeport..wondering what you pay and what is covered for that so i know if we are getting a good deal or not!!! tyyyyyyyyyy

update.... i got a quote....but it was more than what people are posting here..

the breakdown was for coverage of
37for cabinets/floors..inside stuff like that
62 for personal belongings....clothes, couches
and 300k for liability.

was something like 37 a month or 450 a year.

do you know for what you pay.....how much coverage you have??? ty so much

Re: anyone have co-op insurance?

I currently live in a co-op and prior to purchase I was required to get insurance. I can't remember if it was required by the co-op or my mortgage company.

I currently pay less than $200 per year; I have it with State Farm which I also have my auto insurance with. So I get a multi-policy discount.

Re: anyone have co-op insurance?

you're right, its definitely smart to have! call a few places, it might be a little bit of a challenge for you due to your proximity to the water.

My parents are required to have it. They go through Allstate.

I have it through metlife. I pay like $20 a month. Not required but I'm glad I have it.

Re: anyone have co-op insurance? update

Ours was required too and yes, its definitely smart bc while the property is insured by the property managment/owners. If there were to be a fire, they are only responsible for the outside and for what is behind the sheetrock. You are most likely responsible for the sheetrock, on in as well as all of your belongings, fixtures, cabinetry, floors, etc.

We pay $27.96/mo through Allstate.

Re: anyone have co-op insurance? update

Our co-op requires it.
Mine is about $220 per year thru State Farm for basic coverage. I pay more for a rider for other personal property, like our wedding rings and other jewelry not covered under the basic policy.

Not only are you covering your own possessions in case of robbery or god-forbid a fire, you are also covering yourself in case something happens - like your dishwasher leaking and damaging your downstairs neighbor's property or if someone gets hurt inside your home.

Re: anyone have co-op insurance? update

yeah, don't confuse this. This is the same as Home Owners Insurance if you had a house but just for the inside as the Co-Op is responsible for anything exterior to your home.

For around 200 a year, its a no-brainier to pick it up.
