closing lawyer and cost
We are trying to budget for buying a home. What should we expect to pay a real estate lawyer?

Probably between 850 and 1000. Find someone that will charge what's called "contract to closing".
If you find someone that wants to bill you hourly, i'd pass.

Anywhere from $800 to $1500 is the norm. Most attorneys will have you pay one fee for everything from negotiating the contract to closing unless there is something that requires more work, but usually it is all included. YOu will also need to budget for the bank attorney which can run anywhere from $700-$1000.

I charge around $900- sometimes a bit more or less if the circumstances warrant it.

We paid $1500 for our previous RE attorney (so $3K total for the buy and sell.)
This time around we are using someone different and he is $950 for each transaction, but if we use him for both the buy and sell he takes $100 off.
It included everything but overnights (if necessary) and anything outside of the typical buy/sell closing (e.g. if we rent inbetween and need a lease, etc.)
