Re: Italy help

Delta - they fly direct from JFK to Milano and Venice. When are you planning to go?

Re: Italy help

I did Delta/Al'italia (they codeshare) - from JFK to Rome!

I stayed in Rome when we went this year...I would NOT recommend my hotel. Location was good but the hotel itself was so/so. Just FYI all the hotels in Rome have teeny tiny rooms and are SOOOOOOO EXPENSIVE!

Are you dead set on staying in Capri? We only did a day trip there but did not love it...so overpriced and such snooty people and even snootier waiters. We stayed in Sorrento which I loved and stayed in a gorgeous hotel. We also visited the other amalfi towns and I fell inlove with Positano...wish I could have stayed there too!

I didnt go to Venice this time or Milan so I cant help you there, sorry!

I am jealous though!!!!!!!

Re: Italy help

love American, Iberia, and Alitalia of course.

HATE Delta with a flaming passion.

you have a few flight options by doing a "multi destination" ticket.

I would probably fly in to Rome, take the train down to the Amalfi and Capri, then make my way back up through italy via their great rail system, and fly OUT of Milan.

ETA: I agree about not staying on Capri unless you are really looking for a splurge. we stayed at hotel Posa Posa in Positano, and another hotel so gorgeous and so inexpensive, in Castellammare di Stabia,
hotel la medusa

my uncle recently stayed at a pretty nice and not too expensive hotel in Rome. I'll try to get the name.

in Venice, I really loved Hotel Ala I stayed at another hotel a bit closer to Piazza San Marco the first time I went but this one is much better! still walking distance from everything.

In Milan, we usually stay at the Best Western Hotel Ascot, which is about a 5 minute walk from the Duomo and the galleria, and just a little bit more to La Scala. but we stayed at another hotel a bit further this time (and around the corner from my cousins apt, so bonus) which was also very nice, but you'll to either take the tram or the train to the Duomo area, Hotel Ariosto . I know my dh has also stayed at other hotels in Milan but these are the ones I know best.

Re: Italy help

Stay away from Alitalia. We had the worst experience with them, the planes were old and uncomfortable. Try Air France! They were amazing!!!

Rome must sees....
The Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and of course the Vatican. The Vatican is enormous. At first we walked around looking at everything and by the end we were just rushing through... I would suggest doing some research to figure out what it is you want to see at the Vatican and find those specific things.

Venice must sees...
Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Square & Basillica and the Grand Canal.

Sorry I misunderstood... didn't realize you meant hotel suggestions!!! I was there on a tour and hated our hotels so I won't even mention them.

Re: Italy help

Trip Advisor is always a great place to start. You get great recent reviews from people on hotels and they give you truthful distances on many things.

Check out Fodor's on line. They have a Europe chat forum. I like it much better than Trip Advisor as far as reviews and recommendations.
