Birmingham, Manchester or Glasgow??

I have wanted to see a certain band for a long time, but they only tour in Europe. I have always said that I should just go for the weekend to Europe to see them.

The are playing in Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow during one of my vacations and I thought that it would be a great chance! (They are playing in London, but it's the last day of work - bad timing)

I would most likely want to spend the day or two in London and then a day or two in the concert city. I haven't been to any of the 3 choices, but right now Glasgow is calling to me - but no idea why. it's also the furthest to get to from London.

any suggestions?

Re: Birmingham, Manchester or Glasgow??

I've only been to Birmingham and Glasgow out of the three so I can't comment on Manchester.

I actually had gone to Birmingham to see a concert also and while it's not a great town it's not far from stratford upon Avon or some other towns in England if you want to do some sightseeing. The town itself is fine...but not much to see.

Glasgow is pretty much the same thing...if you are going to Scotland I would recommend Edinburgh over Glasgow which is a very industrial city and not much to do either. Not sure if the band is playing in Edinburgh or not...

Sorry I can't help you with Manchester but I think Birmingham is the best out of the other two.

I live in Manchester, come and visit here! Its such a fantastic city, there are tons of boutique hotels, and lots to see tourism wise. Birmingham is BORING (IMO) I travel there for work quite a bit and there isn't much there. Glasgow is also a great city, BUT if you are looking for a city break type weekend, with lots of great food, interesting buildings, tourist activities. Manchester is the place to be, also, we are only like an hour from the Lake District, which is a really really beautiful place. I can help you with any arrangements if you need.

Who is the band and where are they playing? Maybe I can help you out...let me know.

It takes less than two hours to get from London to Manchester, if you let me know, I can help you sort out train tickets.

Tourism Manchester

It's in the MEN arena.

Birmingham is closer so that is definitely skewing my options. I keep thinking that I would be close to Stratford and Stonehedge.

But I have to keep in mind the UK is on the small side.

The MEN Arena is a big venue. Birmingham is only about 40 minutes closer to London on the train than Manchester is, so its not a big difference. Manchester is definitely a more exciting city. Stonehenge is about a two hour drive from Birmingham. Stratford is close, but just a day out imo.

we can get a great deal on a London hotel, so do you think that we could go to either Birm or Manch and return to London on a train late at night?

Well, you will struggle with trains past 10 pm, its best to stay in a hotel in whichever city you choose. For instance, there is a 11.23 train from Birmingham New Street, but there are two changes and the whole journey (usually about an hour) is 7 hours!!

FM me the details and I can find out more info for you, the date of the gig etc...I am intrigued to know who the band is!
