I know I shouldn't complain but (vent) School costs!!!
Highway ROBBERY!
$3901.25 will pay for AJ from Jan through May. School is closed June & July. That pays before and after care along with regular school hours of 8:30am - 2:45pm.
I know its probably cheaper than NY. I know its a Montessori school and therefore a steal but man oh man.
I'm DYING here.
Money is tight enough and my healthcare costs just increased. I had to reduce my FSA and stop buying extra vacation days as well as reduce my dental coverage just to get CLOSE to breaking even.
This stuff is killing me!
I need a raise! I need childcare contributions! I need the Dependent Care account to have its MAX increased to be reasonable to the current cost of care in this country. $5000 isn't gonna cut it!

oh and age 3 we get to buy uniforms! 
I've seen the prices and they are INSANE! I hope Walmart carries similar enough for us to get away with. I think one mom was selling two shirts, a jumper dress and a skirt for $160.

Vent away! I feel your pain on this one! $30,000 a year and while I'll take the $5k over nothing...it sure feels like nothing most days

Well, if it makes you feel better, you're right it's less than NY. (says the mommy whose DD goes to a Montessori school)

It doesn't seem that bad to me, but we paid almost $22k a year for my DD's childcare in NYC.
I hope you can pay monthly! I know paying almost $4k in one shot right before the holidays would have me  too!

Oh I do.. but its worse.. since I can't pay up front the half semester or full year.. i pay monthly and lose the discounts.
I pay $795 a month. $645 for school, $150 for before/after care.
Daycare (without food) is costing me about 33-35% of my total take home pay.
Annual tuition is $5999 for school but monthly its $645 ($6450) I just don't have 6 grand hanging around.

In NY Montessori schools are about 3x the price of a regular nursery school. I checked them out.

Can you look around for other options? May a school/daycare that is not Montessori might be a less expensive option?

I figured it'd be the same here. But her old daycare (chain type place) was $195 a week. Which if the month only had 4 weeks was $780. So it was comparable.
This place *just* opened so we got in on a steal. They still have vacancies so I hope the prices stay reasonable.
I liked that AJ wasn't the new one. Everyone was new. And since its so close to my house a lot of the kids she sees now will actually grow up with her. I hope.
She's an independent thinker and always seemed to find her own things to do in regular daycare. She likes to concentrate on a project. She doesn't go with the crowd unless she wants to. She loves bubbles but only when SHE wants them. So at her old place you'd see all the kids huddle close for bubble time. AJ would look over and then go back to her book, puzzle, cars, etc. Like "nah, not now, thanks" Here they seem to nurture that attention to useful lessons. She's always been a bit 'behind' others but she loves certain things. Her fine motor skills are outstanding. She may not say every color in the rainbow but she knows them all by organizing down to different shades of different colors. She can't count to 5 but she can point out each number up to 10 if you say them. She can't ask for lunch but she can prepare, eat, clean and organize her area for meals. She's got line drawing and circles down to an art form! ha! Puzzles have to be made harder for her or she won't do them. If she starts a particularly hard one she'll always recall where she was and start ahead daily until its complete. I think its helping her a lot. More than just supervised play time as she had before.
But its costing mommy bigtime!
ETA: at her old place $195 times 5 on the months that ran long cost me $975! for the same 10m it was closer to $7800, versus here at $7950 for the same 10m. so for $15 a month it won't save me much to move her back to a chain place. ya know?

That's about what we paid out here in CO for Montessori for 1/2 day only. So it is definitely a steal but I know it's hard to crunch those numbers to pay for school.
