How to Refinish Wood Furniture
I have a round dining table. I don't know if it's veneer, but basically the finish on the table top is rubbing off. I'd like to refinish it/re-stain it. There is no peeling but the finish really just looks like it's worn/rubbed off after 7 years. What are the steps to do this? Do I have to sand it before restaining? Do I have to buy a sander or can I do it by hand? Should I just go into Home Depot and ask someone? Anyone with experience please let me know! TIA.

Re: How to Refinish Wood Furniture
I have refinished oak stairs and also a wood desk that we bought on craigslist which was originally from Macys.
The steps I took were to sand the wood down to its natural state and in order to do that I used a Orbital Sander which I purchased from Sears and also the Mouse Sander which was also purchased there for the spaces that the Orbital could not get to.
It is very easy to use. You want to start with a rough grit around 50 or 60 and make your way up to a smooth grit of 100 or 120.
After you sand it you will stain the wood to the desired color and then Poly it to finish it off.
