Paris Spinoff - where to stay

Any hotel recommendations? Any cautionary tales?

My number one concern with hotels is location - I want something convenient, close to the major things we want to see, easy to get to subway. Will sacrifice on space, etc., as we don't plan on being in the room too much. Would like to spend around $200 or less per night. I always check out trip advisor so will def use that but wanted to see if anyone had personal experience/advice.

I found a place that seems nice online - Hotel du Cadran very close to Eifel Tower and Ecole Militare subway stop.

Would you recommend staying near Eifel or closer to Louvre, Ile de la Cite, or other location?

We rented a flat in Montparnasse. It was a 15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower and a 1 minute walk to the metro. LOVED the area.

Re: Paris Spinoff - where to stay

We stayed on the other side of the river near the galleries lafayette and we loved it, but it was an expensive place (Victoria Palace) -- it was our honeymoon though so I thought it was worth it.

Personally, I'd rather be closer to the champs elysee than the Eiffel Tower just because I don't feel like there's as much to do by the eiffel tower. Paris is such an accessible city, though, wherever you are will be convenient to transportation. I'm a huge fan of buses and we did take buses a bit while there. We got the unlimited 4-day metro pass good for the subway and bus and it was perfect.
