how did you change your exercise routine?
I'm by no means a hard-core exerciser, but had just started getting into a steady routine. I was mainly doing the arc trainer at a pretty high intensity, weights/strength training, spin classes, and the occasional bikram yoga class.
pretty sure bikram is out, but do you think I can keep doing everything else but maybe at less intensity? do you think spinning is okay?
what do you girls do to keep in shape?

Re: how did you change your exercise routine?
I would speak to your doctor, but I think that you can definitely continue going to the gym and do cardio but not at a high intensity. I know my friend is pregnant and she is still teaching a spin class. I think if your body is used to it, you can continue. But I am not even close to a doctor, so don't take my word for it. It is best for you to consult with them.

Re: how did you change your exercise routine?
My doctor totally said NO to spin class
I still do the elliptical trainer at a pretty decent intensity, I also do uphill walking on the treadmill, weights, squats, push ups///
Keep doing what you're doing, but lessen the intensity. Wear a heart rate monitor.
The best rule of thumb my OB told me is that you should be exercising, but not so hard that you couldn't carry a conversation.
Since getting pregnant my workouts are only like 60% of what they used to be (but keep in mind, I'm pretty advanced and go hardcore when I'm not PG).
Definitely keep exercising if you can! I swear it has helped me SO MUCH, both physically AND mentally throughout my pregnancy. Even on days where I feel like crap, I still do at least 30 minutes of SOMETHING.
FM me if you ever need advice

thank you so much! i definitely want to keep exercising. I'm kind of bummed about the spin class - I guess I could understand it because it totally gets your heart rate up although I'm sure I could just modify and not go as hard. I'm just so confused as to what I should or shouldn't be doing. i don't have a HR monitor; do you think it's a bad idea to just go by what the machines say? that's what i did this morning but i question their accuracy.
I'm waiting to hear back from my dr (or really, the nurse) so I'll see what they say.
thanks again

Re: how did you change your exercise routine?
I do exactly what I did before with some minor changes. I use the arc trainer too actually and I lowered the intensity somewhat and I do it for a little less time. I still do weight training just with lower weight and higher reps.
My doctor said I could continue anything I did before. You just got to watch yourself and really pay attention to your body, know when to stop and don't overdue it. I make sure I'm not out of breath when I workout and that I can still hold a conversation. My doctor said to take it easy on the abdominal work, NO crunches. So that's the only thing I modified the most. I'm definitely not doing what I was doing before pregnancy but I'm still doing quite a bit. I was in very good shape before pregnancy so I am very advanced in my workouts though.
Good luck!

Re: how did you change your exercise routine?
I'd definitely ask your doctor about spin because mine said it was fine. I took 3 months off because I was feeling so crappy and just started the gym again and am scared to go to spin class since I've taken so much time off. In a nutshell my doctor said everything was ok as long as I wasn't pushing myself more than I did before I was pregnant. He told me to wear a heart rate monitor and stop if something hurt.

This is me. Exactly. I am afraid to go back to spin now, but I was doing it 3-4x/week before. I am just starting to feel better, must get back to exercising.

Re: how did you change your exercise routine?
I went to Zumba 4 times a week before I was pg. My OB said to continue just not to jump around as much. I am almost 17 weeks and am still going 3 to 4 times a week.

Re: how did you change your exercise routine?
You should workout at 60% of the intensity that you used to. Nothing with too much jumping or twisting motions. I stopped doing spin bc I know how intense it can be.
