Help me stop freaking out. Re: Level 2 and baby's size

I was so excited going in, but in tears after I left my level 2 today. Based on my EDD (from my 8 wk sono), I should be 20 weeks and 1 day...

So at the end of the ultrasound, the tech tells me that baby is only measuring 18 weeksChat Icon

BUT at my 12 week ultrasound (8 weeks ago - at a different place) the baby was measuring right at 12 weeks - so between that and the 8 wk sono, I know it's not just a matter of my dates being off.

I am so upset about it, keep wondering if I've been eating enough, etc.

So to make it worse, after she said that, I asked her what that means and she said just that her weeks are different from my Dr's BUT there is a 1 week leeway at most... What does that mean?Chat Icon

Funny thing is I have been saying that I thought I felt my ds and dd kicking so much sooner (just started feeling this one)

Please make me feel better.

I am trying not to google. I have a Dr appointment on Tuesday.

Re: Help me stop freaking out. Re: Level 2 and baby's size

My first DD was SGA and borderline IUGR. She was about 2 weeks behind all the time. For my 3rd trimester they sent me to a Peri. and made me nuts with BPPs, NSTs, and growth sonos all the time (2x a week I was there). I tried increasing my fat and protein intake. Turns out, she is fine but just a little pixie. Even at 2 1/2 she is still in the 5 %tile for weight (but 50th for height). Oddly enough, DD2 had a SUA and should have been the one that was smaller. She was low avg. the whole pregnancy and is now at 5 months in the 70 %tile for weight and the 90 %tile for height. Feel free to FM me any time...they doctors may have you running around, though you should find out if it is just SGA, IUGR, or something else. Some of us just make little babies!

Don't worry. My DS measured behind my entire pregnancy. I had more NSTs than you would believe. But he was active and healthy as can be. He was born at 42 weeks and he was only 6 lb, 3 oz!

Now he is one year old and almost 25 pounds!

Trust me, they catch up! Some people just make small babies.

Thanks guys. I don't know what SGA is, but my they thought that my ds had interuterine growth restriction, because my belly was really small at 8 mths (not the case now)...he ended up being 6,7 at 39 weeks. I was just measuring small.

My DD on the other hand was 8lbs 6oz! So I don't think it's just that my babies are small.

This time I'm not that small, but the baby is just measuring small.

Thanks again.

Re: Help me stop freaking out. Re: Level 2 and baby's size

At my 20 week sono with DS, the sono tech & dr told me that I had a velamentous cord insertion and the baby was likely not getting proper nutrition. They scared the helll out of me. I had to go for weekly sonos for them to check the blood flow thru the umbilical cord. Then they told me that i had a calcified placenta. They insisted DS was going to be a small baby. Fast forward and he was born 8 lbs 10 oz...
so all that worry for nothing. He was so big, I almost couldn't deliver him (3 hrs pushing and needed vacuum assist!)

All that said, my point was that sometimes they make us worry for nothing. For so many years, women have been pregnant without the benefit of sonograms and everything was just fine. Also keep in mind that the sono tech might have been slightly off with his / her measurement, which would throw off your dates too. Hang in there til your dr appointment, and try not to worry too much. I'm sure your baby is just fine.Chat Icon
