When children are gaining so much cognitively, does it slow their physical growth?
This is what the nurse told me yesterday. At 19 months, my son was 22 lbs, 9 oz (or maybe 15 oz), and 33 in. At his 24month visit, he is 24 lbs 5 oz, and 33 1/4 in. She said that when they are learning so much, it tends to impede their physical growth. I have never heard this before??
ETA: Looking at percentiles, he was in the 11th percentile for weight at 19 months, and is now in the 9th, so not a big change.
But height at 19 months was 59th percentile, and now he is the 20th percentile.

I am not sure, but I HAVE heard the opposite...when they are physically "advanced" or ahead, that you should be on top of their cognitive development and verbal skills. My ped. did not say this, but she did say (when my son started crawling early) to make sure I am talking and reading to him everyday and encouraging sounds, etc.

My ped told me the same thing- when they are physically advanced their verbal skills could lag a little
hmm...see my son has always been physically advanced...he was full on walking at 10 1/2 months, and has always been ahead of the physical "schedule". His cognitive has always been advanced as well. It's just his weight and height dropping that is concerning.
