Need hair help!!! Hair is red/purple...any suggestions on how to tone it down?
Last week I decided to dye my hair with a semi-permanent. It was an Auburn color (5R) which I've used in the past, just not this formula (I used to use L'Oreal ColorSpa/Castings, but they recently replaced it with Healthy Hair/Look or something like that.) Well, now I have reddish purple hair!
Last night I went and purchased a different color (same brand) to try and color over it/tone it down (Chestnut Brown - 5CH). I dyed it today and I could see it was really red/purple so I washed it out ASAP. It didn't seem to have red undertones on the box, that's why I picked it.
Any suggestions on what I can do to tone it down or help get some of the color out? Over the past week I've been shampooing at least twice a day in the shower with no luck of it toning down.
Anybody ever experience this? I used to use red tone semi-permanent dyes all the time, but my hair never came out like this before.
I can only wear a hat for so long!
UPDATE: Ok, DH says it looks better and to leave it alone. It's has red highlights and not purple. He's pretty honest with me and tells me when things look like crap, so I'm going to trust him and leave it alone for a while.

Have you been using a clarifying shampoo? That is supposed to get more color out.
If youstill want to change it you could also call the number on the box. That helped me out in HS when I helped my friend dye her hair & it came out greenish. (not my fault--she picked the colors!)

DH was telling the girl who his cuts his hair at the barber shop what happened and she said to go to Sally in Commack because they'd tell me what pro stuff to buy. Guess I'm heading there tomorrow!

Prell strips out color pretty well and I think there is a product in stores called Oops or something that you can use to if you don't like your hair color.
