BFing moms- do you nurse on both sides at every feeding?
From the beginning I have only nursed DS on one side per session but lately I am wondering if he's getting enough because he is getting hungry every hour and a half! He is 8 weeks old so luckily I'm still on maternity leave and can nurse him on demand but I feel like it's SO often! He would consistently go about 2.5-3 hours between feeding up until about 10 days ago. Is my supply dropping? Is he having a growth spurt? What gives?!?! My poor boobies need a break!!

I always offer both sides and 99.9% he takes both. My DS is 14 weeks and goes about 4 hours btwn feedings. I would offer both sides and see what happens.

They could change all the time. They could be consistent. DS would do every hour for a while, then put in a three hour break, go every two hours, then back to every hour. Depending on the day, week, month. One never knows so you just have to go with the flow.
I guess whatever works for you as far as sides but I would think to suggest doing both sides at each feeding. As he increases his intake, you'll increase your production and I would think you'd feel and look lopsided. I've had that happen when DS only did one side for a feeding here and there.

My dd usually nurses on only one side. There is nothing wrong w/ that, they get more hind milk that way. Always offer the 2nd breast sometimes she takes it, most of the time she doesn't. Sounds like a growth spurt. I feed on demand too, and it can vary day to day. FM me if you have any questions!

I always did both...as my LC used to say "Offer the first side for dinner, the other side for dessert"

Thanks ladies, I think I will start offering him both sides and see if that fills him up a little bit more!

Always offered both sides. Before I went back to work I started only giving one because I was pumping the other.I was trying to build my freezer stash.

one side.
maybe your LO is going through a growth spurt, hence eating so often. it might pass!
breastfeeding is the true definition of supply and demand- if your LO demands it, your body makes it! there is some times when you have to add supplements but at that age, you really don't need it.

Re: BFing moms- do you nurse on both sides at every feeding?
I've always offered both sides, and he always takes both. On a few occasions, he'll only have a little from the 2nd side if he isn't too hungry. The only time he's ever done only one side was maybe 4 or 5 times when he fell asleep and I knew he needed the sleep more than he needed to eat! I'd say it definitely sounds like a growth spurt- you're right to nurse on demand! It will probably pass in a day or 2.

Re: BFing moms- do you nurse on both sides at every feeding?
i always did both sides but a lot of books only recomend doing one side becuase thenthey get the high calorie hind milk
but i also realized at around 8 weeks - is that at 1.5 hr mark he wanted to suck to sleep -i would give a pacifier (tried about 5 different kinds till i found one he liked) instead or take a walk outside to get him to sleep

Re: BFing moms- do you nurse on both sides at every feeding?
I always give both sides (even now at 10 months).
The amount of time per side has drastically decreased since he was a newborn... it was 30+ minutes, 30 minutes, 20 minutes, 15 minutes.... now it's 8-10 minutes/side.

I would always offer both, 99% of the time she takes both. She is 4 months.
