omg- most annoying people live above me!! wwyd?

I really don't know what to do, I live in a building that has 4 apartments. A couple live above us, they are super loud. When they first moved in DS was really new and sleeping all the time (through anything!!), now he is 5 months and wake up to loud noises (such as them STOMPING around)

I am torn b/c my Dad owns this building, I always feel weird saying anything b/c I don't want to come off bratty. On the other hand they are sooo freakin annoying!!!!! There are many many things that they have done since their short stay here to be rude and inconsiderate but that is another post.

For some reason they always enter their apartment through the back door on their deck. That means that they stomp up the stairs in the back and go in and slam the door and then walk through their kitchen. The stairs are practically on DS's room and the kitchen is right above it. The woman always has on clunky shoes (like wedges) so she is extra loud on their hardwood.

I think it is really affecting DS's sleep now. I am trying soo hard to get him to form better sleep habits and it is exhausting me so if he is constantly being woken up then all of my effort is going to waste.

So what should I do?? If I say something, what would I even say? I mean they have a right to live and do whatever they want, they pay rent. Honestly if they were just slightly more careful on the stairs and going in and out I think it would be OK. And if the woman could get a freakin pair of slippers!

My other option is to move DS's crib into our room, it is a very big master. We could either move our bed into his room or stay in there with him. It is much quieter in our room and the stomping is more muffled. We plan on moving in the next year so this would be a short term solution. I really want my DS to sleep better.

As I am typing this, the woman is literally just stomping around above me, it sounds like a horse got loose. I don't even understand what she could be doing to make so much noise. My DH and I area always like ***** are they doing!?!?! Why can't she just remove her shoes?

gosh so annoying....
1st off... i thought upstairs apartments were supposed to carpeted because of this issue.... isnt it a law / rule or something....

i wouldnt move him.. i would get a sound machine with white noise. works wonders when i lived in apt! try it!

do u have a relationship with them? if yes i wuld say something.. if no... it might cause a war and be far worse

I would bring DS into my room, if I were you. I would rather deal with a little bit of a headache in a year when you move and put him in his own room than deal with this headache for the ENTIRE year. Sleep health is extremely important, and he's more likely to get sick if he's not sleeping enough.

I feel your pain. We use to live downstairs from a noisy, obnoxious, A$$HOLE when we first got married. It was pure HE L L!!!. We had to call the cops a few times because our pictures were falling off our walls with the guy above us. He was a big sports fan and when his team lost, it was like he would throw stuff. i use to bang on his door and yell at him. We asked him nicely the first few times to try and be quiet. Then we got loud back...I got a tennis ball and threw it against the ceiling. He knocked on our door complaining. Then when he was being loud again, I would go up to his apt in the middle of the night and bang on his door. Sometimes you just have to get nasty. Finally we complained to management and he was warned...

I would talk to your Dad and see if he can get them to quiet down. It isn't fair to your baby or to you. Right now we are living on the 2nd floor of a 2 family house and we have noisy people downstairs. They are our best friends. their dog is so loud and has no training. She howls all day and night...I b!tch to them all the time...Now they are trying to train her...When the baby is crying, I would take him upstairs and stand outside their door....Sounds mean, but some people think they are the only ones in the world..Good luck...

Can you require they cover a certain amount of their floor w/ area rugs? 80% is pretty standard. I would try to have a nice conversation with them. Perhaps ask them to use the other door? I am a weenie so I would prob just move ds. Oh, and randomly send her a pair of slippers in the mail.

Take a broom stick and bang it on the ceiling late at night and then maybe they well get the hint.

Living under people is fun. I used to live under a guy who used dumbell exercise equipment and would drop them and let them roll every day.

On the bright side... I'm sure they hear your DS well.

You could try speaking to the tenants, but unfortunately, you can't force them not to wear shoes

I would apologetically speak to her. She might not be aware of the noise her shoes are making. You can't demand anything, but if you ask nicely I can't imagine anyone thinking they are entitled to stomp around and wake a baby, when they could easily remove their shoes and make a big difference!
