i would tell DH what was planned with the kids and leave it up to him. Now...if he told me he was GOING to plan something I'd tell him no way...but if it's already set I'd tell him what he was missing  and let him decide.
No matter what...don't let this interfere with your celebrations with your son. Go and have fun and take lots of pictures! 
I agree with this. I would still go on as planned with or without him.

To be honest it wouldnt bother me at all.... most times DH gets an early morning tee time anyway and is home by 1:00

As long as it was a crazy early tee time, I wouldn't care - but if he was going to be gone smack in the middle of everything, I'd be annoyed

DH is not into golf but had he planned a fishing trip, I'd not mind. Sure I'd love him to be around but it wouldn't be the whole day (golf or fishing). It sounds like you have lots of family stuff planned this weekend and next so enjoy just you and DS handing out candy and playing on a blanket on a hopefully cool beautiful fun day! I wouldn't choose that battle.

i'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to watch the Jet game 
Actually, the better question is how I'm going to keep from knowing the score
I'm DVRing the game, but we are going to my parents after a Halloween party and my dad is as die hard as I am and he will want to talk about it.
