What do you think
So we put an offer in on a house today. It was listed at 499,000 and our agent made the offer for 450 figuring they would definitely counter. Instead of counter offering their agent called ours and asked him to come over to the house tomorrow night and "present the offer himself." What the heck does that mean? If you are s taken aback by our "low" offer than counter off and see what we can work out, why would they have our agent come there and meet with them?? Anyone ever experience this?

no I have never heard of that. And in todays market, EVERYONE starts out low it seems. We are actually thinking about selling/buying, and we know what we want to accept, so we will def. post it for higher because EVERYONE negotiates.
I think that's strange?!?!?!?

the buyers agent is allowed to present offers in person and while it's not the norm these days I can see how an in person neg can be benefical to both the buyer and seller

if the sellers agent didn't think it was a decent offer why would they want to waste their clients time, their time and your agents time?
I would see this as a good sign
I was taught you should push to present your offer in person- people just don't do it these days with faxes and emails- but it is the way it used to be done

That's what I hoped too but our agent said the listing agent seemed taken aback by the offer..that it was too low. It wouldnt make sense for him to go if it was a waste of time...I had just never heard of this before. Thank you so much for your advice.

This is how we got our house!!!!!!!!! The in person neg is a good sign...at mine we discussed the terms of the deal, what we had to put down, if the offer was contingent on the sale of our co-op, etc...
