sleeping/laying on your back
Hi all,
I am amost 15 weeks pregnant and I am freaking out because I keep waking up on my back. Plus, at night when watching TV on the couch I find myself laying on my back. I am so concerned with how I sleep that when I am awake I don't pay any attention to it. I am trying to get out of the habit, which I could control while I am awake, but while sleeping this is difficult.
Is this dangerous at 15 weeks? or does it get dangerous as you get further along? I am fraking out and its 6am and can;t fall back to sleep because I am afariad I causes something to go wrong with the baby.
Thanks for your help! Jackie

Re: sleeping/laying on your back
Dr's usually say to stop this around 20 weeks, so you have 5 weeks of practice :). I find that putting some pillows around you helps you from moving to your back.

Re: sleeping/laying on your back
My doctor has actually told me it's completely fine to be on your back. He wanted me to stop sleeping on my stomach after 20 weeks, though. When I am at the gym and lay on my back for weight training, I just elevate my head a bit more and I use an extra pillow in bed for the same thing so the blood flows downward. I'm 27 1/2 weeks now.
I asked him about waking up on my back or being comfortable on my back, and he said that my body would let me know if it was a problem. As long as it is a comfortable position, he said it was completely FINE. So don't worry. Anxiety is a lot worse for the baby.
You can call your OB and speak to the nurse to make sure if it's something you're that concerned about just to see what your office's feeling is about it since every doctor has different advice.

Re: sleeping/laying on your back
I go to bed every night on my side and wake up at some point on my back. Last week this happened and I woke up in extreme pain!

Re: sleeping/laying on your back
I slept on my back until the day I delivered. I once asked my Dr about it and he kind of laughed at me and said- Sleep how you are comfortable- all this stuff about what side to sleep on is just to make you paranoid!
I loved that man!
