Thumb sucker
nail biter thread got me thinking.
I sucked my thumb until I was at least 10.
I stopped when I was around 7 and went back. Mom told me only big girls get their ears pierced and they don't suck their thumbs.

my sister did until she was like 7ish
dh has a friend that sucked her thumb and had a security blanket and was in college!

i stopped late too..and it totally effed up my overbite. so as an adult, i was 22, i wore braces for 3 years.
im going to make sure i break my kid out of that habit if he starts to avoid all i went through.
I only did it at nite though..never in public or in school, etc.

My sister sucked her thumb until she was in her late teens - at which point she had to have her jaw broken and reset to correct the damage she'd done to her teeth.

Oh my god we must've had the same mother. I didn't stop thumb sucking until around 7 years old, and it was because she bribed me with getting my ears pierced too!

then she took me to our pediatrician and they put these ugly steel posts in my ears. Bummer...

I sucked my thumb until I was 11 years old 
My family ridiculed me all the time. Told me I would go on my first date sucking my thumb. I never paid them any mind.
In the end I chose on my 11th birthday that I didnt want to do it anymore, and thats that
I never had braces and my teeth are perfectly straight.

I sucked my thumb till I was about 9 yrs old. Then one day (now mind you there was no lead up to this in any way, no warnings, etc) my "mother" said I was going to the Dentist. It was actually an orthadontist. That B%&ch had him put a retainer on me w/2 metal posts hanging down so I couldnt put my thumb in my mouth. I mean thats cool to that she wanted to get me to stop ruining my teeth but how about a heads up lady!!!! I was so fecking p~i~s~s~e~d at her!!!!!

I was a late thumb sucker, probably until I was 8 or 9. I had the bump on my thumb through HS but its gone now!
DD already sucks her thumb! LOL

I never did, but I have a very good friend who did would end up with it in her mouth when she was sleeping, well into her 20's.

DH still sucks his thumb and he is 35!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I absolutely cant stand it..it drives me insane! Thankfully he only does it in private....

Oh, that is very true! It could def. be worse I suppose One time we went to visit my sister and he started sucking his thumb while sitting on the sofa..I was like OMG..and gave him this look like "You're doing it...stop it now!" I didnt have to say a word..my face said it all! He didnt even realize he was doing it
