Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
Received an email at work today that they have arranged for a nurse to administer flu shots to anyone who wants one to protect the workplace from a flu outbreak. Even as one who has never gotten the shot or the flu for that matter, I think this is a great idea in cutting down on employee sick days, etc. Think I will actually get the shot this year. Any thoughts? Would having the shot administered in your place of work make you more likely to get it if you had planned on not getting it?
ETA: this is completely voluntary and free (paid entirely by the firm and does not go through insurance).

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
my sister's office offers it every year and she always gets it.
I get it at the doctor but if my office had it, I would definitely do it

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
My office offers it every year, and this year they expanded it to include spouses.
I never take it and have never gotten sick with the flu. I rarely get sick with anything.......

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
That would absolutely make me more likley to get it. It's convenient and free? That would make me far more likely to consider it if I originally wasn't going to get it for "I don't think I really need it, so I'm not going to go out of my way," purposes.
I don't think it would change someone's mind who was specifically against the flu vaccine and did not want to be vaccinated though.

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
I got my very first flu shot 2 years ago through work. Went to the office and had it done.
I think it's great that companies are making it easier for their employees to get the shot and if you want to get it, go for it!

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
I teach in psych day treatment. We are not required to get it but itis made available to us. HOWEVER I was not there (on maternity leave) when it was administered so I will be getting one at the kids' pediatrician's office - they make them available to adults.

I get it at work because it's free. I'd get it at my doctor's office if it wasn't offered at work.

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
I've never gotten the flu shot - and I've only had the flu once in my life. If my job offered it for free I still wouldn't take it.
Something about injecting the actual virus into your body scares me.

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
DH used to get the flu shot every year & every year he ended up with the flu right after he got the shot. No, not flu like side effects, the full on flu. After that happened 4 times, I put my foot down & he hasn't gotten the shot in a few years.
I never got the flu shot. I have gotten the flu in the past.

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
Our office does this as well. It has a great turn out! Personally though, I don't get the flu shot whether I should or not. (I have mild asthma.)

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
My old office did that. Lots of people did it. I never ever had a flu shot in my life, so I probably wouldn't participate. But my kids get a shot each year.

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
I would not get it from work because I don't get it ever. I've had the flu 2x and I survived, so I know I could handle it again IF I should get it. (If I was pregnant I would be going to my OB to get it so I could recieve the safest one)
I do think its a good idea for a job to offer it free of charge to all those wanting it. it could cut down the breakout, pending the breakout is the 1 strain everyone is vaccinated against

Re: Flu Shot - Not entirely work related
Honestly because of my profession (I work with children year round) I always get the flu shot. It doesn't cost me anything but me going to the doctor (though insurance it's free of charge).
I'd definitley do it but just keep in mind that the three days after you might have some side effects like flu-like symptoms or even a small cold. If there is a flu or cold running through you (even the start of a cold or flu) you will get the full blown version of the flu/cold.
Also if you're allergic to eggs you can't get the shot.
