Christening Question and Advice Needed

Thinking of having our little man's Christening this March at the Fox Hollow in Syosset/Woodbury. After speaking with the people at Fox Hollow for an afternoon affair I was given a price of roughly $65 per person for the following. Please also note that this did include tax and gratuity.

Cocktail Reception
Passed Hors d'oeuvres
Appetizer- Pasta
Salad
Entree- Chicken Dish, Filet Milon, Salmon
Decorated occassion cake
Desssert- Belgium Waffle Sundae
Fresh Coffee, Tea, Expresso and Cappuccino
Beer, Wine and Soda

Please let me know of your thoughts in terms of value pricewise for what we would be receiving. We plan on having somewhere around 125 people. While the price doesn't seem out of line it does feel a bit pricey for me given it is Winter time, no open bar and no full cocktail hour. Maybe I am a little out of touch with how much these things cost at the momenthaving not planned a party like this since my wedding four years ago. If you have any other catering places or halls you could recommend it would be most appreciated as well. Thanks

**Yes the price did seem somewhat high to me but please do keep in mind that the actual price for the food aspect is $49 and the tax and gratuity is what is raising it to $63-64 per person. I don't know if that was clear in my initial post**

Wow...that seems like a lot to me but maybe only because we could never afford that for 125 people. But if you can afford it - go for it!!! Chat Icon

ETA: I just re-read your post. Given that this would be an afternoon affair with no open bar and no cocktail hour....now I'm thinking for a Christening it is a bit steep. You could get MUCH reasonable prices at other restaurants. I dont really have any recs for a place that can hold that many people though. Maybe Dominico's in Levittwon. They have pretty big rooms and the food is awesome! Or you can just rent out a Knights of Columbus hall and have it catered. Chat Icon
Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope you have a great time Chat Icon

Re: Christening Question and Advice Needed

That seems really high for a Christening, especially w/out open bar.

We had DS's christening @ Douglaston Manor, it was $40pp incl beer, wine & soda. (Plus tax & grat).

Our wedding @ the Coral House was less than what you are getting quoted - I think it was $55 or 60pp, cocktail hour, open bar, etc.

I know Swan Club was a little less than that too, but they didn't have my date available.

Have you checked Westbury Manor and Verdi's?

I am also canvassing places now for DD's christening. Here's a few we are looking into:

Piccolo Bussola
Papa Razzi
George Washington Manor
Pompei

I'm going to see about these places and Verdi's on Friday-I can FM you prices then. Good luck!

Wow.
That's high for a Christening.
I'm not saying it's not worth it for what you get- but it's just high per head.
If you can afford it though- go for it.
I had my wedding there.
Food and service are outstanding.

Re: Christening Question and Advice Needed

it seems high to me too. we paid about that for our dd's christening at a restaurant in manhattan, with gratuity and tax. fox hollow is lovely though so i'd try bargaining with them a bit given the season - they may be willing - or go for it if you can afford it.

Re: Christening Question and Advice Needed

Even if it's $49 pp, I think for a Christening in March, it's a bit steep.

Re: Christening Question and Advice Needed

I think it's a little high only bc there is no full cocktail hour. I feel it should be $50. BUT they do a wonderful job and the venue itself is really nice. It will be a mini wedding.

Carlyle on the Green and New Hyde Park Inn are also really nice and I was quoted $50pp.

well it depends what you can afford I guess. What may seem $$ to one is not to another. For my DS we had a huge christening but paid about 25 a head and paid for the bar tab. We had a lot of people so we had to choose a cheaper place... If you can afford it, go for it, a Christening is special and you have plenty of time to save up...
