Birthday Party Politics
If you have a group of close-knit friends with children between 6 months and 6 years, do you invite all the friends to the birthday party, regardless of the child's age?
For example - you have a 3 year old and don't invite friends who have children under 3 because they wouldn't be able to participate in the activities? Or would you just say the more the merrier and invite all of the friends with kids in the group regardless of age? I'm not talking about a party at a place - they were both backyard things.
Please discuss

For a backyard thing, I would invite all. If at a place, I would only invite the kids in the same age group.

Re: Birthday Party Politics
Personally, yes of course I'd invite them all. They are all friends of mine & of my DC; ESPECIALLY if it was a backyard/home party. I may think twice if it was a gymnastics party or something a baby couldn't do.

my sister will usually invite only the kids in the age range of hers... some times older or younger siblings show up too though... no big deal

Re: Birthday Party Politics
For a backyard party, yes I would invite all ages. For a party at a place, I still usually invite friends kids and even the older cousins. I would feel bad not including them. If they choose to not come, then that's their decision and I wouldn't be upset.

Re: Birthday Party Politics
I say invite everyone...the more the merrier! All kids end up getting along, and making up games themselves, so why not invite everyone!

Re: Birthday Party Politics
Honestly I would never be able to singe certain friends out based on childrens age (especially since a lot of my friends have 3+ kids with ranging ages). Therefore, If I'm gonna have a party it's all or nothing. We decided to have no friends for Santino's bday bc it just would have been too many people and 35+ kids. I actually only invited a handful of my close gfs who are all single/no kids.
I say if you have the space/money etc go for the more the merrier approach but if you want to keep it intimate/small then just stick with family and a few of the closest friends.
I guess to discuss your questions I wouldn't base it on age of the children HTH!!!!!!!

I just read this! People have nothing better to do that get mad. I would not have been offended if you didn't invite me based on this but I know how touchy people are and that is why I have to go for the all or nothing approach in my circle of friends

I take the "more the merrier" approach with all gatherings/parties.

Re: Birthday Party Politics
I would feel obligated, so I just invite none of them since my house is very small. Our family is pretty big as it is so I guess it works out, but I'd love to have my closest friends at my DDs parties as well.

Same here! Although for DS's party we only invited familly and super close friends (friends that are really like family to us).

Re: Birthday Party Politics
If it were at my home, yes.
If it were at a party place, then no, I would and have only invite friends with age appropriate children.

Re: Birthday Party Politics
I would invite them all. If you have it at a place and they are under a year they usually dont even charge you. I had my DS birthday at a gymnastics center and i had a few that did not walk but they were crawling around on the mats and they had alot of fun.

Re: Birthday Party Politics
Backyard-invite everyone, the more the merrier.
If you were having it at a place and it was age specific, I would be more inclined to invite the age group.
Since you are talking about a backyard thing, I would think all ages should have been invited.

Re: Birthday Party Politics
Thanks girls - DH thought I was crazy for being hurt along with another mom that has a baby the same age as James.
In our group, we all have children in the age range of 8 months - 6 years. This particular birthday party excluded several of us, even though it was a backyard thing. At a place, I totally understand.
Just wondering if I was justified in feeling the way I did.

Re: Birthday Party Politics
I would invite all - unless cost was an issue. If it's a backyard party it's really for the adults to socialize too, and if it's at a place, they usually have stuff for all age ranges.
