what a design flaw! where would you put the tv (pic)

ok there is a townhouse that is DIRT cheap for sale.
It has a great room ( pic featured below) .
To the right of the fireplace will be the dining area.
Where do we situate the couch and tv?
if we put the tv above the fireplace it will not only be a little too high for our liking but it will be at an angle- which means how the h$ll do you situate the couch?

Do you put the tv to the wall to the right of the fireplace? would it be odd to have a tv literally right next to the dining table?
or do you put the tv to the left of the sliding door? then there will be 2 focal points..
also, the couch, if we get a sectional, will prob extend out far into the living room area and mess up the flow, yes/no?

we hate to think that we would not consider this place simply b.c of tv placement but this is killing us!

Personally, I think I'd rather it to the left of the door than right up against dining area.

ETA: you would have the sectional with 1 side facing sliding door & tv and 1 side facing fireplace, right?

Our Den is EXACTLY like this...I will put the TV either on top of the fireplace or over to the right of the fireplace...If we do it over the fireplace the couch will be in the far lright corner of the room...does tha make sense???

I would put it up over the fireplace.. And position the couch to face it.. I don't see it as a design flaw at all.. I like it!

thanks for posting the pic!

i guess ideally, we would want the couch centered to the tv .
the fireplace is on an angle, so if we put the tv above the fireplace, the tv will be on an angle and then how do we set up the couch ? that is my main issue.. it really cant go above the fireplace b.c it would make the tv go on an angle. grr!!!

we out the tv to the left of the sliders, there really isnt that much room.. i guess the sectional would jut out..

I agree, our kitchen is over to the right, and we hae a sectional we're going to keep for now, and it' doesn't really cut off the room at all..we have a tiny corner in the back that'll be open

I am not a fan of TVs over fireplaces. Too high for my taste IMO.

TVs should be at eye level for best viewing. The only way I would put a TV high is if I was sitting in a reclined position to watch it where my eye level is aimed higher. Like sitting in a reclining chair or laying in bed.

I would put the TV on the right wall. Couch is facing the TV So the back of the couch is facing the left wall (that we don't see).

Fireplace is in an angle. So what? KWIM?

Your couch does not have to face the fireplace.

We had our TV over the fireplace (ours is corned like the one in the pic) and we recently moved it and mounted it to the wall bc we felt it was too high. Our necks were bothring us from watching. Although it was a great space saver.

So I don't suggest mounting it above the fireplace. I would put it on the right of the FP.

Heres a pic of when it was ontop. Now its to the left under the 3 windows and the couch is reversed (not facing the FP but, oh well)

It depends on how far away you will be sitting from the TV. If you mount it over the fireplace make sure you get a tilt bracket so you can tilt it down so it isnt too high to watch.
