i feel like its all my fault... i feel like maybe i shouldnt have ate the amount of food i've been eating, or maybe i shouldnt have had that serving of kraft mac and cheese b/c of the salt content Chat Icon

i cried last night b/c i really do feel like my baby is big & its all my fault.... this whole pregnancy i feel like i've been watching my salt/sugar intake pretty well (of course with some splurges here and there) i just wish i knew why he is so big & that my elevated fluid levels are fine Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

omg Michelle- this is NOT your fault- please dont stress! I think a lot of it is genetics and the baby and has nothing at all to do with your mac & cheese.

ITA---Most of it is genetics...a work friend of mine is 90 pounds..when she was preggo she did spin classes watched what she ate and she still had a 10 pound baby..The dr told her..you just make big babies!

Don't feel bad at all! It's genetics! Chat Icon I am PG with my 3rd huge baby, LOL! Chat Icon Has nothing to do with what you do or don't eat. Both my boys were over 10lbs and this baby is measuring right up there with them so far and it's a girl! Chat Icon

It's actually great to have a big baby. You don't feel like you're going to break them, LOL and you definitely know which baby is yours! Chat Icon It really is wonderful having big babies. I couldn't imagine having a 6-7 lb baby! I'd be too afraid to touch them. Chat Icon

Re: starting to feel guilty that my baby is measuring big

First, it has nothing to do with what you're eating. Second, please be VERY wary of the baby's "measurements" in utero. The sonos can be waaaay off. I was measuring 3 weeks ahead starting at my 20 week anatomy scan for the rest of my pregnancy. They had me scared to death that I was going to be delivering this gargantuan baby. So scared that they convinced me to be induced due to "size", even though I was dead set against intervention and had taken all sorts of classes on completely natural labor, etc. I was bullied and I hate myself for it to this day. I was induced, unsuccessfully, the day before my due date and ended up with a c-section. Me the girl who didn't even want an epi, ended up with a c-section. If I had just listened to my gut...anyway. End of story being, my "huge" baby was born at 8 lbs, 12 oz. Yes, above average size, but not nearly impossible to push out on my own, and not gargantuan by any means. Please don't get down on yourself and don't let them scare you with the word size. Sonos are not always accurate. Chat Icon

don't feel bad and realize that some of this is totally out of your control. I ate the same with both of my girls. My first with SGA and borderline IUGR (she's fine and skinny now). My second had a SUA and somehow turned out bigger, low average. I tried to eat to make them bigger but it didn't do much.

Do NOT feel bad about this! It is one of the few things in life that we have no control over. As long as your baby is healthy, that's all that matters! Just think... bc he's big, you will get to meet him a little sooner!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Just echoing everyone else but TOTALLY not what you're doing/not doing!

That baby is going to be the size it wants to be!!! Now if you feed it burger king and popeyes three every day for the next 10 years and it measures big that will be your fault but not now!Chat Icon

Re: starting to feel guilty that my baby is measuring big

I think some baby's are just big. DH was 10 lbs when he was born and now at 30 years old he's 6'6 - he's was always just naturally BIG. His sister was 9 lbs, but she's an average size girl and I know another woman who is so tiny and pettite, but when she was born she was freakin' 12 lbs. lol. As far as i know it was NOTHING the mother's did. I assume that some baby's are just bigger than others whether it's genetics or what... just as some of us are taller than others. kwim? Try not to make yourself feel guilty about that kinda thing.

Michelle -

Please, please, please take it easy on yourself. There is no one to blame here, least of all you. A big baby isn't your "fault." Your baby is loved, healthy, and will be just fine. You're going to be a great mom.

And those growth sonos aren't very accurate. I've heard too many stories of moms being told their baby was 8/9/10 lbs, only to give birth to a 7-pounder. I wouldn't panic about their size based on a sono.

Are there big people on either side of your family? Its probably just genetics! or Maybe you have GD? were you tested?

thanks again everyone!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

i was tested for GD & passed the 1 hour... my OB didnt mention anything to me about possibly re-taking the test... but i do know that women with GD tend to have bigger babies... hence why i started getting so down on myself thinking it was stuff i ate Chat Icon

ETA: my whole family is "big" except for my mother, myself and my brother... we are all very short/skinny... but everyone else is on the larger size (weight, not hight)

all the males in DH's family are very tall... uncles are on the larger side, FIL, DH and BIL's are average weight

Re: starting to feel guilty that my baby is measuring big

Don't be hard on yourself. So many people in my family have had VERY BIG babies. He are all healthy, slim, but we are European and eat like Europeans so maybe pregnancy is affected by that - I don't know. I was a very big baby - I was totally healthy, and grew up slim and almost hitting the 6 feet mark. My baby also was measuring very big all along but now he seems to be just above average all of the sudden.

Don't stress yourself. For years people didn't watch what they ate so much in pregnancy and babies were born healthier than they are today. I am not strict with what I eat - I give my body what it craves and avoid the no-nos. Our babies will be just fine.
