Quantity vs. Quality?

Obviously, we'd all love to have both, but a LIW bride posted this website on one of the boards. They have some HOT stuff, but everything is very inexpensive and I'm sure not of the highest quality. Just wondering what you ladies look for when shopping- do you go to Banana Republic and get clothes to last or go to Strawberry and get clothes that work for right now?

i go for both

for clothes like what they have on that site, honestly, it's never going to be made to last.. it will always be cheap clothing - its just the nature of the style
but if you like it, i see no reason why you shouldn't buy it!

Depends.

Super trendy stuff, club/bar wear is usually inexpensive stuff - I'm not looking for quality if I'm wearing a piece 3 times max or if it's something that I'll only wear for a month or two before it's on its way out.

But I as I get older I'm far more concerned about quality.

Re: Quantity vs. Quality?

I do both. For work clothing, coats, shoes, handbags, I prefer quality. I only go shopping for my quality items perhaps twice a year. These items are usually classic and don't go out of style.

When I buy trendy items, I buy cheaply -- because these items are going to only be used for one season anyway, and then either sold on ebay or given to charity.

This is how I feel about shoes- when I was younger I bought a bunch of cheaper shoes and I never got to wear them really because they killed me feet. I'm over it and only buy quality shoes now.

I think mostly the same way- trendy clothes are only bought for a season or 2- dresses, work clothes, and shoes I tend to look for more quality.

And JEANS! Don't eff with my jeans!

Just was curious about what everyone else's thoughts were!

Re: Quantity vs. Quality?

Quality, and thats why my closet is empty. If I can't afford new "good quality" clothes I get nothing .

edit to add.

I tried NY& CO and Old Navy and the clothes were terrible uncomfortable and didnt hold any shape. Big waiste IMO

Re: Quantity vs. Quality?

I tend to stick to places where i know how the sizes fit me and where i can get pants in long lengths..gap, VS, NY & CO.
I think their quality is pretty good. I go to Old navy for cheap T's, summer stuff.

I think at this stage in my life i would prefer quality pieces that will last rather than trendy cheap stuff.

Re: Quantity vs. Quality?

I tend to buy less expensive clothing because I'm very hard on my clothes & no matter what, I wear them out quickly... so I'd rather have lower priced stuff that I can replace more often. I also get sick of my clothes pretty quickly and want to be able to get new without breaking the bank.

Similar here. I can't stomach paying $70+ for t-shirts from theory and vince. I'll stick to Old Navy for that stuff.

I really like buying nice sweaters, pants, and shoes.

But I also love fun inexpensive 'going-out' clothes from H&M.

Re: Quantity vs. Quality?

Definitly quality. Since giving birth last year and now going back to work I bought a whole new wardrobe that I am adding to little by little and it is definitly quality as to before where it was a whole bunch of cheap / trendy stuff.

Both, it really depends..... but I also don't pay ridiculous amount of money for clothes and accessories any more , I used to , but then I realized that just bc you are paying more- or I should say a lot more- you are not necessarily getting the best quality (especially lately, past few years it seems like it's so hard to buy anything that is truly good quality)
I have bought high end designer clothes, shoes, handbags and had problems with them (stretched too much, color faded, ripped, something broke, they were very uncomfortable...) and I have bought stuff on a cheaper side from stores like forever 21, Gap.... and I was very happy with them, they held up pretty well and I had them for a very long time....

Quality for my "going out" clothes and shoes.

Same here.

I was just looking at some Ralph Lauren Black Label pieces and the quality didn't look any different than his Lauren pieces...just 8 times the markup. Chat Icon

Re: Quantity vs. Quality?

I really have a mix...

I used to get fewer things that were high quality- but then when I got pregnant I couldn't justify spending top dollar on maternity clothes I would only wear temporarily. I started shopping at Old Navy and honestly found stuff from there that I LOVE!!!!!!!! So, it opened me up to shopping there even for non maternity stuff (since I'm no longer pregnant)

Actually, I'm wearing something right now from Old Navy!! Chat Icon

As I get older, I lean more toward quality. But I do tend to also buy a lot of cheap stuff I call disposable clothing (will last one season usually). That type of stuff from Target, Old Navy, etc. is great for laying around the house. I always try to look presentable when I leave the house, even if I am wearing cheap clothes Chat Icon

Agree. Although I do cheap out on beachwear. No need to spend a fortune on clothing that is going to get all sandy and salty!
