At what age can they go in an exersaucer?

Just curious.
Do they have to be able to hold themselves up in a standing position or no?

They need to have good head control before going in the exersaucer. Most people I know (including myself) usually start around 4-5 months.

I put my son in when he could hold his head up. I just stuffed the seat. with blankets to keep him form flopping over. He was beginning to get tortocollis from laying down so much. It helped stregthen his neck.

Re: At what age can they go in an exersaucer?

OK thanks- My DD is only 12 weeks- I know she is probably too young.
But in terms of head control she has very good head control.
She holds her head up and turns her head side to side like crazy.
Her neck is super strong.
But I am going to wait another month or so...I still think she is too young...

She has been standing straight on her feet for a few weeks now too! It cracks me up to see her little legs holding up that body on my lap! Chat Icon

We started DS around 3 months. He had pretty good head control at an early age.

Re: At what age can they go in an exersaucer?

We started putting the boys in there at around 3 months. We put blankets in to prop them up and kind of held onto them just to make sure they didn't get hurt. They didn't really "get it" though----too young. Now at almost 4 months, they are starting to like it (slowly).

Re: At what age can they go in an exersaucer?

DS is 13 weeks and also has very good head control. We just got a bumbo seat for him so we will use that first. We still need ti buy an exersaucer but if we already had one id prob try it with him. We will prob buy it when he turns 4 months. It dosnt hurt to try it thiugh but from what i heard u may need to put blankets in there.

they just need good control of their head - you don't want them to be flopping around!

at first we had to put a thick book so that he could reach something!

we started around 4 months

Re: At what age can they go in an exersaucer?

I think it once they have good head and neck control. Also I think being able to stand is helpful. I would wait until DC starts showing interest in objects, looking at them trying to touch them ect. otherwise DC really wont have a purpose for being in it.

DS has been pushing himself up to stand since 3 weeks old. He has always had great head/neck control but now at 15 weeks he is even better and since he has been becoming interested in objects now I felt it was time. He is able to entertain himself in there for about 10 minutes (and of course I join in with him), but is still not really going for things too much but he likes putting his feet down and looking at the toys.

We started using it at around 4 months. We put a blanket around them to help keep them from falling forward and back.
