Sick? Allergies? - Updated after doctor visit

Final Update (3:30 pm):

I went to the doctor. They were so nice to me there. I was ashamed to ask for help since I grew up really not going to the doctor ever (my dad's a doctor and always told me I was faking everything I said was wrong with me growing up) but I'm really glad I went because it's what's best for the baby now.

My doc said there's a virus going around here (I'm in NC) that's definitely consistent with my symptoms, although my onset was faster than usual (could be because of the PG). He said I can take Tylenol Cold and he encourages me to, and that chloroseptic and throat lozenges are completely ok.

The baby sounded great, and he's not worried about her at all.

Doc even said I can work out while I'm feeling sick -- that my throat will just hurt while I do. He cracks me up sometimes. It was nice to crack a little smile since I still feel like crap.

My temperature was a little high but it wasn't really a fever so that's good too.

He said if I don't feel better at the end of the weekend, to call on Monday morning and he'll have me back in to consider anti-biotics. But we're both in agreement that if this is viral, they're unnecessary so it's more of a wait and see.

Thanks again everyone! Now, I just keep drowning in water and hoping to feel better soon.

As I was eating dinner tonight, I noticed the back of my throat started hurting. I thought maybe I swallowed wrong.

But it's hurting more now (4 hours later). I've always been sneezing a lot since I've been PG, but it's actually hurting now when I sneeze.

My eye is itching a little which is why I think maybe it's just allergies, but my ears are also stuffed. I just don't know.

I don't want to be a big baby or a hypochondriac, but I'm worried I'm coming down with something and scared what that could mean for the baby. Do I just call the doctor in the morning or try to stay home and nurse whatever this is? Should I wait another day or two and see?




Small update at noon:

I was up all night with the throat pain, so I called the nurse this morning. The doctor is seeing me at 2 pm so I'll see what he says. I hope he just tells me it's a head cold.

I'm drowning in liquids now, but whatever will work I'm willing to do!

I would call the doc and just mention you've been feeling under the weather. See what your doc says and go from there. No harm in making the call!

Call them anytime you feel it's necessary. You're not being a baby, you're being cautious.

it could be allergies, mine have been crazy the last few days, and usually they don't bother me at all. if you get worse and develop a fever, or colorful mucous ( i know gross, sorry lol) i would definatly call your doctor. feel better, plenty of fluids!!!!

your immune system is generally lower when prego, so i'd call to be safe

i'm having the same thing happen right now . i asked my doctor about it and she thinks my throat is from post-nasal drip/allergies. according to "what to expect," allergies are apparently heightened during PG. fun, right?

I have the same thing that started Friday and became a full blown cold this past weekend. While it sucked having it, I didn't bother to call the doctor and I am starting to feel better each day. I think doctors will give you something if need be, but I figured I would try and fight it first before resorting to antibiotics.

Oh Sandra, I'm in the same boat! My allergies have been making me feel terrible! My dr is Jewish and I know he won't be in the office today or Friday so I have to wait it out until Monday.

First FEEL BETTER! I'd give the doc a call if it last more than another day.

in the meantime I'd try two things..

- gargle with a little hydrogen peroxide VERY diluted with water. .just a little bit mixed in. it should kill bacteria in your throat.

- try nasal rinses - just saline (water and salt) . .you can use a neti pot or they have great bottles you can just fill and squeeze which I find a lot eaiser. it literally cleans your whole nasal passage and can help with the allergy/congestion/etc of pregnancy since our nasal membranes are all dilated and such. .

and IMO as long as you're not being crazy calling the doctor every week I would say always trust yourself. . you would always regret NOT calling if something was wrong but will never regret calling in the long run!

My throat feels the same way for 2 days. I wake up with watery eyes too. I really think it is allergies. Feel better

my allergies have been pressing on too. I usually don't get them until May-ish. So it's weird for September, but I assume it's because I'm pregnant. Sneezing a lot, but that's basically it. I don't think there's any harm in you calling the dr if you think it could be something more than general allergies. I hope you feel better soon.

I am in the same boat as you right now.
I have been so sick since Sat. and haven't taken anything, just trying to ride it out.

I have been suffering most of this pregnancy with stuffiness and sneezing.

I woke up today worse than usual and it's starting to feel more like a cold.

I was told I can take Actifed and Afrin for 3 days if I need it. I'm traveling tomorrow so will take stuff to stay clear for the flight and then suffer during my trip

My doctor also encouraged me to take the cold medicine. She told me there is no need to suffer and the meds are perfectly safe.
