3 yr old moms (behavior)

where did my well behaved little man go??? ds never had the terrible 2's, never tantrumed, and although he has way too much energy he was well behaved....until maybe 1 month ago.

now he tells me that he doesn't want to listen and he doesn't, he tests us all day, he doesn't want to work for anything (says i don't want x,y,z even if he does) and he's having a major issue sharing toys with his little brother. he has always been a difficult eater but now is refusing favorite foods just bc, he whines all day and throws a fit at the drop of a hat. i swear i say don't touch something and he touches it, i warn him and he holds his finger right next to it or touches it with his elbow.Chat Icon i can take a little whine or not listening but ALL day!Chat Icon

plz tell me this is a phase and a short one.

what r your 3+ yr old like these days?

Re: 3 yr old moms (behavior)

Jack was really bad during the twos. I don't want to say he's great now, but he's getting better. He is communicating more, and understanding things more. But, I do know how you feel. It was horrible. I swear, I could walk past him and he would flip out on me. The tantrums were out of control. He battle of wills were out of control.

We still have issues with eating. I do not care anymore. If he doesn't want to eat, he doesn't have to eat.

He will also share with any random stranger on the street, but with his own brother everything is "It's mine!" --- I tell him that if he doesn't share with Tyler the toys will go in the garbage, so he has to give him something to play with.

It's not easy, that's for sure.

ETA: Just after I wrote this post Jack had a tantrum Chat Icon Chat Icon Guess I'm not totally out of the woods yetChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: 3 yr old moms (behavior)

Actually our temper tantrums have gotten better on the whole -(as in we see less of them) but I get talk back in other ways.

Today we went to the playground for a playdate - and DD who has been great all week - was great at the playground - sharing and playing great - then BAM - the exorcist came out. She THREW a HORRIBLE tantrum screaming almost the entire walk back to our house about how she didn't want to leave and how she didn't want me etc. Soooo embarassingChat Icon

Overall she is pretty good - but now we are starting to get whining which I can't stand - and she learned a horrible habit from an older child of saying "I don't like you or I don't want you" when you tell her No to something. I find she melts down - basically when we try to leave something she wants to stay at, when she is tired, or hungry. So I find when she gets a good night sleep, and I keep her fed we see a lot less tantrums.

On the other hand - I have found she has been listening more and calming down a lot so it has been kind of a trade off.

Re: 3 yr old moms (behavior)

My DS is the KING of telling his mommy "I don't like you" and "I want a new mommy" things like that. He is a complete wise arse. So I can relate to your child pushing buttons. On the flip side, when he'ss good, he's a doll. Tells me I'm the best, how much he loves me, etc...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS has his good days and his bad days. Overall pretty much the same as he was when he was 3. The difference is the language skills. He now has the ability to talk back and essentially get himself into more trouble.

If you think 3 is bad just wait til they hit puberty!!!!Chat Icon

DD didn't have terrible 2's either so this 3 thing is hitting hard. today she air-swiped at me while yelling and screaming. it was lovely. she is a beast with her 1 yr old brother and won't share anything with him! its tough. i know it could be worse but OMG some days i am just at a loss!!Chat Icon and wind up blaming myself for her behavior too. Re: 3 yr old moms (behavior)

We have wining and crying here too. I just try to stay calm, move down to his eye level and hug/whisper talk to him in his ear. We lucked out when he was 2. Now some days Chat Icon, but in general he is a great kid.

Re: 3 yr old moms (behavior)

Tantrums are rare for us but since he turned 3, we had a couple episodes. 2 in the same day at the stores a couple of weeks ago. One them really bad at PBK. And another one the same week.

Usually that's when he is just overly exhausted.

My 2 1/2 y/o wanted fruit snacks. I told him no.

He told me, "I SAID YES SO ITS YES!".... 2 mins later when he got out of time out his tone was a little different...

The mom's of 3 y/o are scaring me.

Same thing is going on in our house Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I think they are a little older now and more independent and I feel with TJ he is testing me and there is a little bit of a power struggle. He wants to do what he wants to do when he wants to do it.
