Re: San Francisco Weather??
It's gorgeous. We went in Aug two years ago. It won't be "warm"..maybe it will be low 70s at the most.
If you go north to Napa and Sonoma it gets warmer.
To this day, it's my favorite trip.

Re: San Francisco Weather??
California's been having a colder summer than normal, but that could change in a few weeks. I was in SF in July, and it was chilly downtown, especially once the sun started to set. It does tend to be a little windy since you're right by the water. Keep your eye on the weather forecast when it gets closer.

Yes, agreed. We did a catamaran trip and bundled up.

Re: San Francisco Weather??
ALWAYS dress in layers in San Francisco, no matter what time of year you go there.
Summers are typically foggy and cool, but if you are going in September, it may be a little warmer. If you are going to mainly be in the city, you won't need shorts/tank tops, etc.. If you will be travelling out of the city, especially up to Napa Valley, bring shorts, it gets hot up there in the summer.
It generally doesn't rain there in the summer, so you don't have to worry about dressing for that.
ETA - I lived there for a long time, IMO the two best months, weather wise, are September and May.
Have fun!

Absolutely bring heavy sweatshirts for the city this time of year! The fog keeps it surprisingly cold! However, anywhere outside of the city, Marin/Sonoma/Napa/East Bay etc... it will be warm or even hot.
