Is morning sickness a valid reason not to attend a wedding?

We have 3 weddings in the next month. I feel so sick and can barely go to work. At the same time, I don't want my friends to think I do not want to celebrate with them. I just feel like such crap. I can't imagine sitting through a ceremony and definitely am not feeling up for partying at the reception.

To be honest...I think it would depend on how close you were to the bride/groom. If it was one of my best friends...and she didn't come to my wedding b/c of nausea, I might be a little upset...

But i'm thinking that you wouldn't miss a a best buds wedding.... so if its just an "aquaintance" type of friend...then HELL YES!! Go for it!

Good luck, hope you feel better!

2 weddings are DH's good friends. DH is in the wedding party of one.

Then another wedding is a gf of mine. We used to be close but we haven't hung out in years. This girl is very sensitive. I feel she would just think it's an excuse if I did not attend.

DH thinks I should just attend the wedding where he is part of the bridal party.

I would agree that if DH is in the wedding party, you should try for it... but the one where you guys don't really hang out much, I would think that that would be FINE to pass on if you're not feeling well! Especially if you are not as close as you once were....

I'd say skip the ones you can. I went to a family wedding at 12w when I was still in the thick of m/s. And while it was a really nice affair, I didn't enjoy myself. I couldn't eat and every time they put a course in front of me, I wanted to gag. I didn't throw up while I was there, but had the dry heaves in the bathroom a few times--and out in the parking lot.
Speaking from experience--when you feel that bad, the only place you want to be is home in bed.

I agree - it depends on your relationship with the bride and groom. If it's your mom's cousin's stepsister's college roommate, totally skip it. But if it's your BFF since preschool, I'd suck it up and go. JMO.

Just think of how you would feel if it happened to you. Someone just did it to my brother and it really upset my entire family...I personally wouldn't use the pregnancy card...I have 11 weddings this year, 2 baptisms, all the bridal showers, and 2 baby showers. I have gone to everything so far and am going to everything in the future (they end when I'm 8 months). I would just suck it up and go JMHO.

Re: Is morning sickness a valid reason not to attend a wedding?

I absolutely had to. My DH got invited to his brand new co-workers wedding. We didnt even get an invitation, it was just a verbal invite. I was so sick, nauseous 24/7, throwing up everyday and fast asleep by 10pm. There was just no way I was making it to a wedding where I barely knew the people. I wouldnt just use the pregnancy card unless I literally couldnt make it.

If you RSVPed yes then you should make every attempt to be there, IMO. Within reason of course, if you wake up that morning and just can't get yourself out of the bathroom then that's one thing, but don't just use MS as "an excuse". Put yourself in the bride & groom's shoes, how would you feel? Even if you skip the ceremony, show up halfway through the cocktail hour, and leave the reception right after they cut the cake. I think you should try to make an appearance ESPECIALLY for the one your DH is in the bridal party for.

Ok think how u would feel. i would totally understand..... i puked daily (more then once a day) until the day i delivered. there would be days i would be laying on the bathroom floor at work i was so sick. soo.... if someone couldnt attend my wedding because they were sick (from pregnancy or the flu etc) i would totally understand and make sure to let them know that its ok and how much they will be missed but u have to do whats best for u. since 2 are ur DH buds, let him go and have fun. u stay home in sweats and a tank top. and skip the other one all together. i went to a wedding 7 months pregnant and was so sick i ate a piece of bread and left as soon as possible. some people are better preggers than others. if u r having any doubt dont go. and they will understand.... i would, wouldnt u?

hmmmm...toughie, I think you should try to go, even if it is only for a portion of the ceremony/reception. But if you are really sick dont force it. Just remember people get funny about their weddings.
