Sort of spin-off to the Doctor post...
If you use a practice with multiple doctors, do you only use one doctor? Or do you have a "primary" doctor?
We use Dr. George. I just make an appointment with any available doctor, even for well visits. Am I the only one? Should I have a primary?

Re: Sort of spin-off to the Doctor post...
There are 5 in my practice. I always request 1, with an alternate I also like in case my first choice isn't in. The primary reason I like the one I like best is b/c he's a dad with a DD 2 weeks older than my DD, so he gives me good clinical advice balanced with that of a dad. I find the others in the practice good, they all have different personalities. The alternate one I request I get along with well too and my kids like him.

Re: Sort of spin-off to the Doctor post...
Kerri- we use a practice in Holbrook that has 80,000 dr's. It feels that way sometimes but it's more like 25 dr's. I don't mind it at all b/c it's a big pratice and they are affiliated with Stonybrook hospital. I see anyone. I know a handful of the dr's pretty well but there's still a good amount I've never met. Some people couldn't do that; they need a smaller practice and be one on one with the same dr. where as I don't mind it at all.
Where is Dr. George?

Same here. When I first started going to the practice I saw all of them until I found the one that I liked best.

There are 3 in my practice in west islip. I've seen 2. I only go on monday nights when the same dr is in. I feel like its more personal bc he remembers the same issues from the week before.

Re: Sort of spin-off to the Doctor post...
We have a primary. It's actually not the 1st doctor we first saw and were recommended to.
But we have seen on occasion other PEDs if DS was sick and needed to be seen.
But in general, they are very good at trying to give me a spot with our primary PED even for a sick visit.

He's in West Islip on Higbee Lane. Brian & I both went to him when we were younger. There are 5 doctors there now. I see all of them. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

we also go to a practice of about 5 doctors.
We really love one of the Dr's in the practice and only see him for both well and sick visits-he's a fantastic dr!
we would see someone else if we needed to, but we always go with the one DR.

I have a primary that I use for all well visits and request for sick visits. There have been a few times when she wasn't available soon enough for a sick visit so I went to someone else. There is one Dr. I will never see though, I just don't trust her.

Re: Sort of spin-off to the Doctor post...
Some doctors are really good at pulling off that your child is memorable and that they remember you or what not, but most of the time they just make really good notes in their charts. I think it doesn't really matter than you are seeing the same one or not. Usually, the doctors in the same practice will usually have very similar philosophies on a lot of things. This is def true in our practice.
But I just feel better seeing the same doctor, I know his credentials and I picked him when I was pregnant. I think he actually remembers my DH more than my DS, since they are both physicians its like a private club
