URGENT: If you booked with 1800hotels.com
I received an email today that if my reservation was booked before 7/14/10, I should expect it to be canceled! They filed for bankruptcy. I am so upset. I booked our trip to DC months ago and got a really good rate from them. Now, the hotel still has my confirmation, but when I called 1800hotels.com, the very nice woman advised me that I should assume it will be canceled within the next three weeks, and I should send in the claim form to get a refund. She also said that I should definitely book another reservation somewhere.
Now, I am supposed to go away in three weeks, have no place to stay, and there's no more availability at my hotel (although if my reservation gets canceled, you would think I can just rebook it). I am crushed and totally stressed out! All the prices for hotels have gone way up, and we booked this vacation on a budget originally.
Here's the body of the email:
Travelers who booked hotel rooms prior to July 14th should expect their reservation to be cancelled by one of our suppliers. Please check with your hotel to confirm. Reservations may be canceled even after receiving confirmation. Travelers who find their reservations are canceled may seek a refund by submitting this form (also linked below) to the bankruptcy court in Florida. Please send the attached form to: The Federal Bankruptcy Court for the 11th Circuit 801 N. FloridaAvenue Tampa, Florida 33602 Name of Debtor: 1800hotels4U, LLC Case Number: 10-bk-16648-CED

July 28, 2010 - 1800Hotels.com has resumed operations on its North American website by partnering with Expedia® Affiliate Network (EAN), a business unit of the world's largest online travel company Expedia, Inc. Under the agreement, EAN will power travel bookings on 1800 Hotels.com, providing direct access to the broadest selection of travel products and services, and enabling 1800Hotels.com to streamline its business model.
Earlier this month, 1800Hotels.com filed for bankruptcy protection to restructure its debt. The company is now able to resume customer service.

Can you call the hotel directly and confirm the reservation with them? If so, do they have you marked as "paid"? If they do, you should get a confirmation number or email from the hotel directly and take it there when you go. (I was confused by your dates since 7/14 was a few weeks ago.) Worst comes to worst, you can fight with them when you get there...
So sorry you have to deal with this!

Thanks. I spoke to someone directly at the hotel, as well as someone with Omni Hotels in general. I was given a hotel reservation number, but neither was able to guarantee that the booking agency wouldn't cancel between now and then. I asked the last guy I spoke if he was able to tell if it was paid, and he said that it just seemed to be reserved. I have a bad feeling about this, but will just keep checking every few days to make sure the reservation still exists.
One woman I spoke to at the hotel said that she did have people who called to confirm and their reservations did not exist, so I'm hopeful that somehow, ours made it through. She suggested that I keep checking, though.

The form is probably a Proof of Claim that you would file with the court. It is very simple to fill out but if you want to be sure that the court receives it, my office can e-file the forms. There would be a small fee for the service. I hope that not many LIFers are affected by this.
