So you send your kid to a playdate...
And the mother says "Pick him up at six" you pick the kid up at six, and the mother is cooking dinner for her kids (you can smell it) but hasn't fed them all their dinner.
Wouldn't you feed the kids dinner if you told the other mother to pick your kid up at six?
WWYD? WWYT? WWJD (he was at the Vicars house, so assuming he was infolved)
Maybe there isn't a right or wrong, I am just curious.

Re: So you send your kid to a playdate...
Not sure what you are asking. Do you think the mother should have fed your child BEFORE 6pm pick up time? If I was to pick my child up at 6pm and the mom was cooking dinner, I would think she just started and would be feeding her own kids after I picked up my child at the time she asked.

Re: So you send your kid to a playdate...
We tend to eat a little later because of work schedules, so I probably wouldn't think too much of it. But I also think I may have asked if they planned on feeding DC just so I could be prepared.

Re: So you send your kid to a playdate...
I guess in my circle of friends, a playdate that ends at 6 would always include giving the kids their tea (thats dinner in the North of England...) This playdate was out of my circle, I wasn't expecting her to give Noah his dinner, but with such a late pick up, I thought that she would. Again, I didn't ask, nor did I expect it. I thought she might.
Wouldn't you give the kids their dinner for such a late pick up?

Re: So you send your kid to a playdate...
I wouldn't be offended if that is what you are asking. She's cooking dinner for her family at dinner time. I don't see anything wrong with that.
I can't say from experience because DS is just a toddler but if I wasn't good friends with the parents, I wouldn't necessarily invite everyone over for dinner after a playdate.
eta: we usually eat dinner at 6:30 or 7.

If it was 6pm, I would ask if it was ok if he ate with us. Unless we eat at 6:30pm, then I'd ask if it was ok if you picked him up later or I dropped him off to you because your kid loves my meatballs.
(Just had this happen on Sunday. Kid was dropped off by us at 7pm).

Re: So you send your kid to a playdate...
If i'm understanding your question correctly, no I wouldn't assume she would have fed my kid dinner. I think if she was going to she would have mentioned that she was going to cook and feed my kid dinner. I don't know though, I'm not at the playdate age yet.

See I wouldn't think 6pm was a late pick up as most people I know, including myself as I only get home at 5:30 after picking up my son from camp or school eat dinner around this time or later. Depending on how long the child is there, I would give them a snack though.

I was just curious to know if you would have assumed she was going to feed the kids, I had dinner ready for Noah anyway, but had her kid come over, I would have made sure he was fed and watered before a 6 pm pick up! I wasn't offended!!

Re: So you send your kid to a playdate...
We aren't at the "drop off" playdate stage just yet but if I was hosting a playdate that ended (or even began) around a meal time, I probably would have fed the kids. Most likely though, I would have discussed it with the parents first to prevent any allergy or diet sensitivity issues.

same here...
but maybe its a cultural difference or what seems "normal" may be different to others

No, I wouldn't assume she would unless she told me she was as 6pm seems like dinnertime to me and if she asked me to pick my child up then, I would be feeding him or her.

Re: So you send your kid to a playdate...
i would not have fed the kid if it was a playdate at my house. Our normal mealtime is not until 7:30 or 8 (for the kids too)
BUT, if I were to have a playdate that late, I think I would probably just mention to the mom or dad that we dont eat until later so they know their child would not be fed.

I guess it comes down to what is considered a late pick up. I would expect dinner it if the pick up was like 8pm but not 6pm. For me, a 6pm pick up would signal picking the child up before dinner. 6pm is the time most people come home from work and would have dinner with their families.
My parents ALWAYS offered food to everyone no matter what. They just loved feeding people. It didn't matter what time it was.

Re: So you send your kid to a playdate...
When Jordan has a friend over around dinner time, I will always ask the parent about dinner(If they can stay, what they like etc.). I would also NEVER feed a child without asking the parent first.
