is the ultimate compliment your ped asking to take your baby home b/c he's so cute?   cuz mine did. he was hamming it up and it was hard for her to leave the room.
though truth be told, there was a screamer in the next room so that could have had something to do with it
today was luce's 9 month appt and he is doing great. she is very happy with his progress so I was relieved. and he seems to be very healthy. she is especially please with what I call his brute strength. I feel very blessed.
one thing though, when he was born he was 3 months he was 95% for h&w. 6 months he was 75%. now at 9 months he is only 50% for h&w.
is that normal? ped didn't seem concerned but...I feel like my baby is shrinking?!!
does this "always" happen or is he going to continue getting smaller?

A drop in percentile can happen! DS dropped from consistently being in the 50th percentile to the 25th percentile as he got closer to his 1st birthday. The ped wasn't concerned and just said he was most likely settling into the growth curve. The ped was right- DS has stayed 25th percentile ever since.

I think since he is more active now, he is burning more calories...I also don't 100 percent think that the way they measure height is always so accurate. I wouldn't worry if the doctor didn't seem concerned.

He is getting bigger so he is getting leaner.
My kids have had both happen.
DC#1, was always 5 and 15%.. now he is 90%
DC#2 always 90% now she is 50%
DC#3 always 5% or not on the scale and now she is 50-75%
:)
i'd want to take him home too! he is edible!

DD was exactly the same with the percentiles... 95th at 4 months and at 6 months it went down a little and then at 9 months was exactly 50th %ile. I miss the chubbiness, now that DD is walking she's thinning out so much!

Thomas went down percentiles since birth too. Not as concern as long as baby is consistently growing and thriving.
Glad Luce's appointment went well!

Sounds totally normal to me. B was a huge baby. As they grow more mobile, they gain less weight and they even out. B is currently in the 25th percentile for weight, 50% for height and 95% for head circumference.  He needs to eat more but otherwise he is a-ok!

my doctor always told me that as long as the height and weight percentages are in the same general area, you are fine
I know that the growth slows dramatically from the infant to toddler stage

totally fine...and remember....it's not about striving to be in the 90th percentile....if they are in that percentile it means your child is LARGER than 90% of the other children...and if they are in the 25th, it means they are LARGER than only 25% of the other children....so this is a case where 90th isn't necessarily better.....

Same thing happened with Kieran. He was consistently on the 50th %ile curve until his 4 month visit, when he dropped to 5th. They did several weight checks over the next month to make sure he was gaining ok and he was. Our ped said he is a very active baby and was just settling into his curve. So he's gonna be a little guy, but he' still gaining right along the 5% curve, so she's not concerned.
