Which would you prefer - sleep in or longer nap?
Not that we really have any control over when our DC sleep. But which would you prefer?
A DC that slept in late (say 8:30-9am) and took 1 short cat nap throughout the day. Or a DC that was an early riser (say 6am-7am) but took a 3 hour nap during the day?

definitely sleep in!
BUT i'd also enjoy having the time during the day to myself to get things done around the house.

If I were a SAHM, def the latter - I don't think I could go all day without a break - but I'm back at work now and so I love that my DD tends to get up a little later than most since I can get up and get mostly ready before she's up (super helpful on mornings like today when DH is out on business and I'm calling into an early morning conference call - I was able to get myself ready, get her up and changed, and started feeding her during my call with the mute button on - thankfully I didn't have to talk :)).

Definitely wakes up earlier and takes a long nap!
That's what jacen does. He wakes 6:30/7am and takes a 3 hour nap during the day.
I'm not one to go to bed late anyway (10pm at the latest) and the only time i have to get things done around the house is when he naps. 3 hour naps are the best!

I am so cranky and miserable in the morning, I need an hour or so to get ready for DS. Just so that I'm not grunting at him. I would love if he slept longer. He usually wakes at 6am and plays in his crib for a little bit. I feel so guilty I can't be as happy as he is in the morning.

Kids who sleep till 7am. Nap from 2-4. Bed at 8.

Early rise and longer nap!
Right now James is waking up between 5:15-5:30 and then sleeps from about 9-11:30 and again from 2:30-4:30. He's teething, though, so some of his naps are just catnaps, but this has been his schedule since I've been home from work (I'm a teacher). I kind of like the down time when he naps and would most likely strangle myself if he didn't take those long naps.

Def a nap!! I could never get anything done if he didnt nap! Nevermind that early riser thing! I'd rather just go to bed earlier so I would be ok getting up with him.

If we're talking about Rylan I say sleep in because he is just so friggen good 99% of the time so I don't mind him being awake.
Xavier on the other hand would rather take a 3 hour nap. Actually I would rather him sleep 23 hours of the day. Mean I know but man this kid is work...lol.

As a working mom, sleep in.
If I were a SAHM, Id need that nap break in the middle of the day...kids are exhausting 24/7

 Tyler is a wild one. The only time I sit is when the kid is napping.

oh definitely a longer nap!
DD just dropped her 2nd nap already (will be 1 Saturday) and take a 1-2 hour nap from 10:30-12:30 and thats it! I have may be 2 hours to do what ever I need to do...I would love a longer nap but if the price was she stayed up later then NO

I have an early riser who naps for 3 hrs and as much as I curse the early wake up on weekends, I think this is better. By lunchtime, I need a break and its the only time I can get anything done!

On days when DH & I are both off I want him to sleep later
On days when only 1 of us is home with him the 3 hour nap would be AWESOME!!

I like how you think early rising is between 6:00-7:00. I'd take that any day of the week. My DD gets up between 5:00/5:30 every morning  .
With that being said, I'll take chose #2, early riser with a long nap. For me it would be a win win...

LOL..sorry. Was just throwing out times. I consider 6 early since DS has never really gotten up before 6:30.

Sleep in! I'd rather be out and about doing stuff, but its so hard since DS still naps for 3 hours, sometimes 3.5 every day!

My DS was a great napper, but woke at 5 or 6 for the majority of the 4 yrs he has been alive! DD is only 3 mos, she sleeps usually 11 hrs 9-8 (or so) and 1 good nap, then little cat naps. For me this ideal, DS doesn't nap anymore anyway so its fine that DD is up too. It was HELL getting up SO early for so long (but well worth it, of course)
