Re: Read my husband's essay on Parenting

That was very good. Insightful, true, and interesting, but it's a bit heavy... more NY Times than Daily News if that makes sense. Your DH writes like he has his PhD... does he?

ETA: I just realized that might have sounded snarky, I hope you know I was asking an honest question, because the article is so intellectual!

I think that's a good way of describing it. Depending on his target audience, (I hesitate to say this) it may actually be too 'intellectual' for a blog. Its pretty heavy reading.

I agree but I think it was written well, a little too heavy for me but I know Mike and I think he did a great job with this, I can relate to many of his points

I agree. It required a bit too much concentration for me! Chat Icon
It kind of felt like reading a text book rather than a blog.

(that said, it was very well written!)

He does not have his PhD or even his Masters or BA. He is definitely an intellectual. Thanks for reading and for your commentsChat Icon

Re: Read my husband's essay on Parenting

I liked it.

I can see why some would say it was "heavy" for a blog. when I think blog I think rambling thoughts or a conversation with oneself. this sounds more like defending a thesis.

but I like people who "talk" like this. it automatically lifts my brain up a notch Chat Icon

he seems like a smart dude.

ETA: I feel I should add that I don't follow ANY blogs. it's just not my thing.

Honestly it's a bit wordy for me. I think his thoughts could have been conveyed in many less words. I had to think about each sentence before moving to the next. Blogs that I have read, don't usually require that level of concentration. I only read the first paragraph though....

Re: Read my husband's essay on Parenting

I dont want to sound harsh, but it almost seems like he is trying too hard. There are too many "big" words, especially for a blog.
When I read a blog, I am looking for light, witty, reading. It is not a blog I would follow.

I think it was very well written..I'm very very wordy and tend to write like that, but as previous posters have said, I wouldn't want to read that much and such a wordy blog...but def well written!!!

Re: Read my husband's essay on Parenting

honestly? I stopped about half way through it....for what it is, it was far too long winded. I felt like I was a college professor reading a students research paper.

I liked it, but then started skimming it because i thought it was too intellectual.

With that said, he's a phenomenal writer!

Re: Read my husband's essay on Parenting

I think it's pretty cool. I mean, a blog might "usually" be more casual but it doesn't HAVE to be like that. I think it reads sort of like a chapter in a philosophy book- and I don't think that's a bad thing. I think it's interesting- sort of like a stream of consciousness that is helping him come to conclusions about parenting.
